Writing and Communicating the Business Case Once the research has been completed to determine key initiatives, align the specific objectives that must be accomplished, understand the measurements and targets that define success, formulate an action plan of initiatives and budget impact, a Human Resource (HR) professional will be equipped with the information required to communicate an overall strategy.
Making the business case: When the goal is to communicate an HR strategy to leaders, HR itself must first fully understand and identify what is important to those leaders. Once this has been established, HR can then develop a communication and change management plan that focuses on those key business drivers while demonstrating how HR can add value by aligning with leadership strategies (Milner, 2012). Those responsible for conveying the message should be able to dialogue in specific business language, tailoring the message to meet the needs of the business (Corporate Executive Board, 2008).
Communicating the Business Case: Once the strategy has been fully developed HR has the information necessary to effectively communicate the information to leaders. By demonstrating that the plan has been well thought out and aligned with the financial, customer, internal, and learning and growth business perspectives in mind, the message to the leadership team can be more impactful. The method of communication should be tailored to the audience. A formal presentation would be appropriate at the senior level, sharing the alignment to business goals by providing the information in terms of tangible value, how the bottom line would be positively impacted (or not impacted at all), outlining specific efficiency enhancements, and addressing other potential concerns (Milner, 2012) in a concise manner.

...Business Writing Portfolio Sharon Tucci XCOM 285 October 7, 2012 Karen Blatter-Schieler Capstone Checkpoint - Reflection Sharon Tucci XCOM/285 October 5, 2012 Karen Blatter-Schieler In this class I have learned effective writing skills which I plan to use when needed in my current job and more importantly my future job whatever that may be. My current job is very informal and does not require me to write very often. Once I graduate college I plan to leave this position behind and move forward in the banking industry which I know will be much more professional. It is there where I really plan to utilize these skills, whether I will be writing internal memos, corresponding with clients, preparing a report for my superior, or writing e-mails. I think one of the most important lessons I learned in taking this class was the difference between academic writing and business writing. Especially since I am currently a student it can be difficult to make that transition. Writing papers for class I am used to trying to impress my instructor with an extensive vocabulary and using a lot of “fluff” to make my papers flow and to meet certain word requirements. Where in business writing I do not want my audience to need a dictionary to translate what I am saying, most people are busy and will probably be juggling several tasks while trying to read the document. It needs to be quick and to the point delivering only necessary information. This is a class that I think everyone...

...Writing is largely an iterative process that improves with practice. We have done a great deal of writing and revising in this course. We have also read Timothy Flood’s Business Writing in its entirety. Reflect on your writing skills and confidence five weeks ago and consider the progress you have made. Specifically, what new skills have you added to your writer’s repertoire that will help carry you through your graduate program? Discussion I Professor and Class, What an interesting five weeks. I am so happy we’re almost done! Five weeks ago, I struggle with getting started on writing. Today, I feel my writing skills have improved tremendously. I no longer struggle with getting started and I feel I am a much stronger writer compared to five weeks ago. I think the best advice I’d obtained from Flood and Thomas was being able to communicate to a diverse audience. Both Flood and Thomas brought awareness to writing clear and concise and using proper grammar, punctuations and to reframe from using slang, big words or using words that could have multiple meanings, which can be confusing to international readers. I also learned the importance of being able to convey my written intent to my audience the first time. This will ensure that my reader understand my intent and is able to respond to my request or instructions accordingly. Lastly, I discovered when writers incorporate business-writing techniques as part of their normal writing process (writing business......

...Business Writing Business writing is similar to technical writing; the concerns and strategies are the same. You start by collecting information—whether you're writing a letter, an email, a press release, or preparing a presentation, you start by gathering your thoughts and doing research. The research might involve reading relevant research papers, clinical trials, and review articles. You may want to talk with researchers, colleagues, or peruse your notes you made at relevant meetings.... It's a good idea to begin by asking yourself "What am I trying to achieve?" If you can't answer that question. the chances of writing a good piece are slim. If you can identify your global intentions, then you can evaluate your information, arguments, and recommendations against those intentions. Start immediately to identify the main issues, think about how to organize them, make some notes, brainstorm, and so on. By focusing your thoughts, you've started to think about what your readers might want or need to know. ------------------------------------------------- Some Things To Keep In Mind This is the same list of strategies used for technical writing: 1. Understand the type of report/memo/synopsis you are writing—find examples and notice the structure and organization other authors have used   2. Write down your global intentions—a phrase or two that captures the gist of your potential writing   3. Tentatively identify possible sections and subsections—this is a......

...Cultural evaluation Cultural evaluation In the realm of business dealing with other cultures can be cumbersome if one is not prepared to adjust or identify difficult areas so that both cultures can have an amicable and fruitful business environment. First of all, formality, American business men are taught and coached to “Wear dark colored business suits in classic colors of gray and navy. For an important formal meeting, choose a white dress shirt, for less formal a light blue shirt will still give you a conservative appearance.” Kimberley Roberts & Stephen Taylor 2012, United States of America Business Etiquette, Culture, & Manners While in Brazil “Three-piece suits carry an "executive" connotation, whereas two-piece suits are associated with office workers. We are grateful for the opportunity to assist you and your financial needs and sincerely understand the frustration you are experiencing with the recent charges to your account. We have taken it upon ourselves to investigate this situation in order to resolve the issue. After receiving your refund request for the multiple transactions that occurred at Wilson’s Gourmet on January 27, 2014, we conducted a full investigation to figure out exactly what went wrong. The ATM Error Resolution Department contacted Wilson’s Gourmet and confirmed that their technology is completely up-to-date and has yet to experience issues with the equipment. After looking into the situation more, we found out that the transactions were made in the same day from either the same or a different Wilson Gourmet store. Since you and your husband have joint accounts, it is possible that there was more than one purchase made that day from either accounts. However, without receipts submitted, our department has come to the conclusion that this was a minor misunderstanding. Unfortunately, I am going to have to respectfully deny your......

In order to eliminate this new problem of increased costs, it will be necessary for our company to amend our existing store hours. To begin with, stores will now be closed on Sundays. In addition, Monday through Saturday, each work day will be shortened by two hours, and stores will be opening one hour later and closing one hour earlier. Instead of the usual work week consisting of 8-hour days five days a week, managers will now be required to work 10-hour days four days of the week. This change of schedule will not only benefit our organization but it will also benefit you personally because it will allow you to save additional money on gas, will give your more free time to enjoy with your family, and it will allow you to feel less stress.
