Internet Vulnerability of Securing Health Data
With healthcare moving more and more in the direction of technology the need to protect patient’s privacy is becoming more demanding. Patient’s health care information, medical history, and personal identification are key information that internet hackers seek. Internet intruders can come from down the street or abroad. Protecting patient’s pertinent data is becoming more and more complicated. Patients enjoy the freedom of being able to access all their pertinent medical information from all over the world. Yet, they don’t realize that many eyes are constantly watching their every move. With the freedom comes the threat of identity theft. No matter how secure a system is someone is always ahead of the game finding ways to slip through the cracks. According to Alan Paller, “there are at least 100 countries actively doing cyber-espionage (M, 2010).”
In the healthcare environment you have many people accessing and using the intranet system. The IT department has the job of monitoring and blocking excess from internet sites without security clearance or certificates out of date. Unknown to the IT department is that the staff can be trying to access these sites which are not allowed. This would put the healthcare organization at risk of scripts slipping in (M, 2010). these scripts are security breaches which are used to steal patient’s personal information. Anti-virus software programs are not looking for these scripts they are looking for files. These scripts can come from social media networks which staff may be accessing. According to Dave Meilek, “most of today’s threats are blended attacks propagated on legitimate sites like Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, and many others.” (M, 2010) Attacks can come through emails which have suspicious scripts attached that help them get into the system finding the crack in the network and…...

...What Would You Do? Scenario 1- Della the Delinquent Cat Lady As the president of the board of directors of the cat shelter, I am faced with rather or not Ms. Della should remain as part of the staff at the cat shelter. There are several problems that have been brought to my attention and I feel that now is the time to figure out exactly what should be done regarding the matter. After, evaluating the situation and giving it a great deal of consideration, I have come up several solutions to the problem. One of the easier solutions would be to just let Della go. I have considered retraining Della as manager of the cat shelter, or having a sit down with Ms. Della and asking her how she thinks she is performing as manager. Also, I think that asking Ms. Della to step down as the manager and giving her a position that she can handle. Although, these may seem like the best solution to resolve the situation, I have to look at the pros and cons of any decision that I make. If I decide to let Della go, it might benefit the company in the sense that we can find someone that is really dedicated and committed to for fulfilling their position. On the hand, Della is already going through a tough time, and firing her will not only affect her, but affect her children as well whom she is trying to provide for. Retraining Della could really help her gain a better understanding as what is expected from her as a manger, and she could gain more knowledge that may help her excel as a......

Final Career Path and What Would You Do

...threat area. I soon found out that there were a few large companies, and projects, that would serve as a starting point. Aegis, DynCorp, Global, Triple Canopy, and US Training Center were the major players in the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security Program. I spoke with work colleagues that have worked for one, or numerous, of the aforementioned companies. I was mostly interested in the areas of company vision, work beliefs, and compensation plans along with the individuals’ point of view. I then began an internet search of my top 3 picks (Global, Triple Canopy, and US Training Center). I researched news articles of specific incidents, public views, and awarded contracts. Public forum sites, such as SOCNet, provided a valuable resource on how different companies were viewed & operated by, and at, the lower levels. My final task was the research of each of the company’s specific website; focusing on mission statement, focus, and plans for the future. Networking, on sites such as Linkin & CareerBuilder, played a key role in securing a position with my first choice; Academi (formally known as US Training Center / Xe Services). CSO Response to Theft in the Shipping & Receiving Department I believe my first action would be to actually confirm the reports of the stolen products with the Shipping & Receiving Department head. At the confirmation of a loss, I would begin the investigation by interviewing the individuals whom made the initial......

What Would You Do

...we watched video clips from ABC’s show “What would you do?” one of situations in the video was a woman with OCD with a condition of germ phobia. She had dropped her groceries on the floor and could not purchase them for she felt they were “dirty”. The cashier was playing a roll of a not so very understanding person. He kept implying that they were not dirty and that the food was fine, one customer in line tried to explain to that OCD is Obsession Compulsive Disorder and that once something isn’t right they mentally cannot handle it. In the second situation there was a man in a liquor store with his son purchasing alcohol for a party that his son was going to have. You could tell that the son was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and that the father was pressuring him. A bunch of people disagreed with the actions the father was taking. In the final scenario a woman was breast feeding her child that was at the age of four in a coffee shop. One of the actors was playing the role as a disgusted costumer in the coffee shop and was making a big scene asking the woman to do that elsewhere. A lot of customer didn’t seem to have an issue with the woman breast feeding her child in the open public. Critique: All the scenarios had good points to them, if I was the person in line at the grocery store I would have done the same thing that the woman had done while she was in line. Some people have no courtesy and are just plain rude. It would have been quite difficult for me to be......

Love What You Do

...stuck, unhappy, and have no idea what to do about it, except move to another job. Mary Lyn Miller, veteran career consultant and founder of the Life and Career Clinic, says that when most people are unhappy about their work, their first thought is to get a different job. Instead, Miller suggests looking at the possibility of a different life. Through her book, "8 Myths of Making a Living," as well as workshops, seminars and personal coaching and consulting, she has helped thousand of dissatisfied workers re-assess life and work. Like the way of Zen, which includes understanding of oneself as one really is, Miller encourages job seekers and those dissatisfied with work or life to examine their beliefs about work and recognize that, "in many cases your beliefs are what brought you to where you are today." You may have been raised to think that women were best at nurturing and caring and, therefore, should be teachers and nurses. So that's what you did. Or, perhaps you were brought up to believe that you should do what your father did, so you have taken over the family business, or become a dentist "just like dad." If this sounds familiar, it's probably time to look at the new possibilities for your future. Miller developed a 7-step process to help potential job seekers assess their current situation and beliefs, identify their real passion, and start on a journey that allows them pursue their passion through work. Step 1: Willingness to do something......

What Do You Expect

...Courtney Gaylor GS1145 Charles Bozeman January 6, 2015 Most people have no clue as to what they're going to do with their lives and a lot of them do indeed turn out to be software engineers. Most software engineers do their jobs very poorly, many are average and a few are actually good, but everyone has a place in the industry. I am pursuing a degree at ITT Technical Institute in hopes of falling in the category of “actually good”. I feel that what I need to be successful is hands on learning. At ITT I plan to achieve a career, not just to float through life one “job” after another. A goal that I started to attain before leaving high school is developing the ability to see the value in maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. When I include my goal in the curriculum, I have a better understanding on how positive words, positive character traits and positive thinking can impact life immediately now and in the future. Another goal of mine is to be happy. To be happy is the most important thing there is because you only have one life and if you go through it fighting, competing and struggling you have wasted your one life. Being a human on this planet is like winning the lotto and if people would act that way we could all help each other and try to make the time we have not be a waste. I think that's my ultimate goal... I don't know that it's everyone's, if it's THE ultimate goal or even if there is a THE ultimate goal. Also I was thinking that......

Business Ethics What Would You Do

...Chapter 1 – What Would You Do? Business Ethics (section 01) 1. What are the ethical issues? There are several ethical issues involved in this scenario. The first is the confidential information that Ralph had a test to determine if he carried the gene for alcoholism. This report is marked confidential and should not be shared with others, whether it is inside the company and definitely should not be shared outside the company. The second ethical issue is pursuing Ralph to take a blood test to test for this genetic issue. Since company policy states that an employee would be ineligible for coverage of a medical condition if diagnosed prior to employment, Jane shouldn’t worry about it. Ralph was not diagnosed prior to employment with COBA. The next ethical issue is Ralph’s acknowledgement of having the test and the results. When he spoke to Jane, he stated, “just between you and me.” In order for Jane to be ethical, she should not repeat what Ralph told her in confidence since he acknowledges the problem and is trying to fix it. When Jane spoke to Chuck, she let him know that she was worried about Ralph’s quota for the next quarter. I think she already expressed concern and it would be best to sit back and see what Ralph’s performance is for the upcoming quarter before addressing the situation. Jane should address the situation with Ralph first and if unable to come to a resolution, she should pursue it further with Chuck. Jane has to be ethical to the......

...need is Nick Oddo. Nick was once a Baker College student studying business and choose to use his skills to help those get back on track to financial protection and freedom. The company he currently works for as an independent business owner is Motor Club of America. This company is rivaled with AAA coverage, and their goal is to give people the most reliable and substantial protection while driving. The company also offer’s cash rewards to those that bring in referrals. Nick claims the highest reward he can ever have is when he has made people financially independent and protected so they can go on living the life they have always desired. The ethical issues involving MCA are the fact that there advertising must be consistent with what they offer. There is an imperative for Nick to identify the company’s company plan and make sure that their insurance packages have required coverage. In Motor Club of America the insurance coverage is legally bound to protect those when on the road. Meaning to take advantage of the insurance one must be having a problem with their vehicle and no other property, personal injury outside the vehicle, and legal troubles such as being arrested. They offer a written contract agreement that is paid for on a monthly basis. A major perk to the company is that even clients can make money by referring friends to purchase subscriptions. One referral alone can end up paying someone’s monthly fees, and any additional leads to personal......

What Would You Do If I Rhymed Out of Tune

...What would you do if I Rhymed out of Tune? One of the main channels where Americans speak out about race, violence and culture, is Hip-Hop music. This is a place where the music is dominated by black artists, yet most of its sales/profits are to whites in America. Is it because white people just like the beat and lyrics of the music, or are they trying to identify with a society they have never known? in spite of its popularity among white listeners, you don’t see the murder rate among young white males increasing because they identify with it. Some might argue that music could never inspire an individual to act in a certain way or someone to kill. However, some could also debate, if music can make you feel happiness or tranquil, then it might also motivate one to violence or invoke aspirations to kill. Byron Hurt, the Filmmaker of “Hip-Hop, Beyond beats and Rhymes,” talks about a “Box” that Hip-Hop puts men in with its lyrics and by the gangsters the music videos embody showing what a real man should desire to be, in his film. “In order to be in that box, men have to be strong, tough, have a lot of girls and money. Men have to be a player or pimp, they have to be in control and dominate other people, because if men are not those things, then they are called soft, weak, a pussy, chump or faggot, and nobody wants to be any of those things so they stay inside the box.” (Byron Hurt) Hip-Hop’s impractical ideas of manhood have become a box resembling a prison, the......

What Would You Do If You Had Unlimited Resources

...Jennita Coates DEV107 Critical Communication (Speech) February 29, 2016 Speech What would you do if you had unlimited resources and finances to investigate a medical problem? I know what I would do. I would investigate the cause of Autism. Autism is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. This is a passion of mines because my three year old son, Nathan, was diagnosed with Autism at the tender age of two. No one know where it came from or how it started. Some experts believe that environmental factors like mercury poisoning, dietary habits and early childhood vaccines can cause Autism. However, none of these theories have been convincingly proven. Having a child with Autism can be very challenging and time consuming. Its hard to communicate with them and their behavior can be all over the place. When my son, Nathan, was first diagnosed with Autism, we could not communicate at all. He would sit, stare into space and not answer to his name. At one point I thought he was deaf because he was so unresponsive. When we are in public, Nathan tends to fall and spaz out, making it hard to control him. In that moment, it made me feel hopeless like I have no power. As a parent it broke my heart to see my child in this state. I blamed myself for his condition. This is typical with many parents with children......

To Do What You Have to

...language that allowed for people of diverse linguistic backgrounds to be able to communicate. Latin, like other languages past and present, had more than one form and changed over time because it was both written and spoken, and the educational level or social status of the writer or speaker often determined the final form of the language. Latin was also influenced by local languages spoken or written within the larger territory under the influence of what later came to be known as the Roman Empire. During the Carolingian Renaissance, throughout the reign of Charlemagne and his successors, the development of Latin literacy was greatly promoted. Although reading and writing were skills that some people had, literacy was not widespread before that time. Literacy in Latin was generally limited to people of the upper classes and members of the clergy. Charlemagne invited Alcuin of York to become his personal tutor and the head of his court school. Charlemagne charged Alcuin with the development of a literacy curriculum for children that would provide for their instruction in reading and writing, as well as for further study in the liberal arts and theology, thereby also furthering the Christian teachings that Charlemagne’s court promoted. The promotion of literacy impacted education and language throughout the region. The demand for material relating to the interests of the ruling military class increased. Over time, vernacular languages, the languages commonly spoken, began to......
