April 14, 2014 The story Green Thursday was very interesting. The title made me a little curious about reading the story. In this story, green Thursday represents the day Jesus returns to heaven. The main characters in this story are Mike, Rose, Baby Rose, and Killdee. Killdee is Rose husband and Baby Rose is their child. Mike is the family mule. Rose is pregnant with her second child. Rose is very holy and takes green Thursday very serious. A good way to make money during this time is to plow corn and sale it. It was a sin to plow corn on green Thursday and anybody who did would be strike dead by lighting or burnt in a fire. The village believe that God would kill or do something bad to whoever plow corn on this day. People who plow corn on this day got most of it because not many people were doing it on green Thursday. That left Killdee with a big decision to make, knowing Rose would be very angry with him if he went out and worked on this day. With him having a second baby on the way he knew this was the only chance he hadto make good money. Killdee also wanted to buy Rose a new dress, and Mike was a very old mule and he was sick so Killdee needed money to buy a new mule. Mike was a very good loyal mule. His bones were bad and his belly was full of old bad corn. Mike teeth were too rotten to bite into his food. Killdee knew that he needed a fresh mule to help him work in the fields. Killdee decided he and Mike would go and work in the fields. That made Rose really worried because she took it so serious. Killdee returned home after a long day in the fields. Rose was really upset with Killdee as she fixed him a plate of food. She says, “Somet’ing bad’ll happen to you sho as Gawd’s enn heaben. People ain’ fo’ plow today.” (p. 163) Rose is telling Killdee that something bad is going to happen to him and that he knows people are not suppose to work…...

Analysis of “the Man Who Was Thursday”

...The role of the artist was especially important to Chesterton in 1908 because during that time Britain was booming with unemployed anarchist; Chesterton states in his own novel that “An artist disregards all governments, abolishes all conventions. The poet delights in disorder only." (Chesterton, Pg. 8) meaning that a true artist lives free of a government; they are free to create as they please without following rules. The rules simply restrict their creativity and abilities. The role of the artist is a dominant theme in The Man Who Was Thursday, as Chesteron portrays the artist as a spy for the law playing the role of an anarchist in order to uncover a secret society of terroristic anarchism in the novel and in the end the artist actually ends up becoming the work of art to society. This is important because society sees the role of the artist as the creator discovering themselves through their work and they influence society through their emotional creativity. The novel begins with two artist; one being Symes who believes in applying respectability, law, and order to poetry, while the other poet Gregory debates that the best and truest poetry is one that is not ruled by government. In my opinion the role of the artist in the novel was to portray a story in which the artist Symes, a man of such order and yet extreme creativity gets so lost in his own paranoia about being discovered by the anarchist group that he begins to lose his perception of fantasy and reality. In......

The Man Who Was Thursday

...The Man Who Was Thursday The story of The Man Who Was Thursday, It is a very symbolic Story. The writer G.K. Chesterton takes you inside a mysterious anarchist group. One of the more symbolic characters of the story is Sunday. Sunday is a very intricate character and Chesterton decodes Sunday in a very spiritual way. He is portrayed in a very interesting way. Chesterton suggests ideas of that of which Sunday represents. In the book The Man Who Was Thursday, takes place in London, in the early 1900's. It stars the main character Syme. Syme is a poet who was recruited to a secret police force. The police force that he is recruited into is looking to stop an anarchy group. He gets into the organization and becomes a top member of the group. He is sworn to not tell the police about the group by a fellow poet named Gregory. The top member Sunday has organized this anarchy group and has named the top members of the group after the days of the week. Thursday or Syme, learns that the other days of the week members are also undercover police officers. By the time he figures this out, the whole town has turned on them as anarchists. Even through everything Thursday never breaks his word and tells the police of the group. In the end he is rewarded for keeping his word and staying true., but who is Sunday? Sunday, portrayed by Chesterton in once sentence can be described as a larger than life man. Not only large in the physical sense but in a spiritual sense. In the book......

...[Introduction] Naiker wants to purchase a second hand piano and Ahmad posted an offer on Monday 2 June by letter to Naiker but his offer was delayed by postal strike. Upon receiving Ahmad’s offer on Thursday 5 June, Naiker wants to seize the opportunity and wrote back an immediate letter of acceptance to Ahmad on Friday 6 June. However, Naiker’s letter of acceptance was delayed again and only reaches Ahmad on Monday 9 June. In the meantime, when Ahmad did not receive any replies from Naiker and believed that he is not interested in purchasing the piano anymore, and hence sold the piano to Janice, the third party in this case. [Issues] The issue is whether there is an enforceable contract even though Ahmad has no control over the postal strike that delayed the arrival of both the letter of offer and acceptance. At the same time, whether Ahmad is responsible for Naiker's loss of piano since he was unaware of the acceptance letter that was posted on Friday 6 June and only till it arrived on Monday 9 June and hence, Ahmad did not post any revocation of offer to Naiker. These can be supported by Agreement, Postal Rule and Revocation of Offer by Offeror. [Relevant Law and Application] Agreement is one of the essentials needed to form a contract. In terms of making an agreement, there must be an offer and an acceptance in return. In this case, it was clear that Ahmad has posted an offer by letter to Naiker and Naiker has also returned an immediate letter of acceptance back......
