...Jazmin Ramirez PSP 202 Post 1 Public service consists of three different forms: social service, social action and social policy. In the article, 3 Kinds of Public Service Work: Service, Action, Policy, the author states social service "involves working directly with individuals to help improve their lives" as for social action, it does the same except it helps through organizing communities which will create change.  Social policy, on the other hand, consists of working for systematic change using the "top down" strategy. Going in depth, social service helps individuals and families deal with emotional, social, physical, and economic problems.  It can be done in public agencies, nonprofit organizations, as well as private corporations.  In order to serve through the lenses of social service one must have skills in listening, teaching, and counseling. Social action can be viewed as community organizing. "The goal of organizing is to empower and develop local community leadership and to help build a community's capacity to meet its own needs." Some skills needed for social action are interpersonal skills, being able to work with different kinds of people, communication skills, persuasion and organizational skills. Social policy can be done in the public and/or government sector. Although these different forms of public service have different approaches they still have the same outcome, social change. In chapter two, Distinguishing Features of Organizations, the......

...Types of Expedition Assignment 1 Our public services and the general public undertake a wide variety of expeditions for a wide variety of reasons. Now you have watched videos of two different types of expedition discuss these expeditions in your groups, compile your opinions and explain them, on the following points. Expedition 1 Name of the expedition: Royal Marines polar quest. * Royal Marine’s polar quest. This expedition is a great example of team effort within a military expedition. The Royal Marines and Navy planned and achieved a 2600Km ski and kiting trek to the South Pole and also a return journey; this took place in November of 2006. The services planned this expedition to break the following records, to be the first public service to reach the South Pole since Captain Robert Scott 1912. Also to be the first British military expedition that includes a return journey to the South Pole and to be the first. Marines to achieve their goals unaided by any other personnel; the military explorers successfully completed the expedition by January 2007 making it the longest in the distance of 2600Km British expedition on record. * The Area of the expedition (location; is it local, regional, national or international) The area off the expedition was in the South Pole. ...sentence. The bad thing about this law is that people will not change their minds about women working as the men would have seen the females to be at home cooking dinners, doing housework and childcare not putting out fires and the effect this may have is it will be open to law suits for not letting women into the fire service. For the fire service they put in inspectors who are aware of EO (equal opportunities) are being used and they done this to make sure that the fire service are following the polices they have set out. The effect this might have is that on an inspection a fire department are found out for not following the polices, if they do not follow the polices they will be breaking the law and will be procured and sent to prison. Also an effect it will have on the fire service would be moral. The council is for the whole county such as Kent and they different responsibilities which include education, public transport, emergency planning, highway and the traffic, libraries, planning and development, refuse disposal, social services and trading standards with different departments for each responsibility. One of the council’s responsibilities is the public transport. The good thing about this is buses are more environmental friendly and healthy for the world and as there will be less cars on the road it will create less pollutions in the air and it will create more jobs as the bus company will need people to driving all of the buses, ticket inspectors, people at......

Carmona Public Service Announcement Paper Attention consumers are you aware that foodborne issues can lead to serious illnesses or death. Foodborne illnesses effect more than 48 million people a year. Children are more susceptible to foodborne illnesses than adults are. If one is not concerned about him or herself, think of how quickly germs spread from one child to another. Storage Are you aware that perishable items should be the last items on the cart after selecting other items? This prevents spoilage. Refrigeration of perishables should take place within two hours of purchase and 1-hour of purchase if the temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. A helpful hint is to check one’s refrigerator or freezer’s thermostat periodically. The temperature of one’s refrigerator should be set at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, and the freeze temperature set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Many American are unaware of how long products such as fish, ground meats, and poultry can remain refrigerated or uncooked before bacteria starts to build. As a consumer, are you aware? The cdc.gov website is to freeze or cook these items within two days of purchase. On the other hand beef, lamb, pork, and veal can remain refrigerated a minimum of three to five days before cooking or freezing. ...In the entirety of this essay, I will be discussing how my commitment to public service has shaped and helped cultivate skills that have proven valuable in the workplace. The notion that people are motivated to work in the public service field as a result of a desire to help others and make a positive impact on their community is a long-standing one. I view my work as strengthening my community; maintaining the highest levels of commitment and competency are crucial to excelling in the public service position. Given that many people are attracted to public service work by their motivation to serve and make a positive difference in other’s lives, it is essential that what is referred to as the “line of sight” between values and the task they are required to fulfill in the organization is not lost while clearly showing all employees how their contribution matters to the overall objectives of the organization is critical to maintaining their sense of motivation. As a government liaison volunteer, we partner with local government agencies and officials to get the job done. Our volunteers act as the “face of the red cross” to our government partners, but also serve as the primary communication channel during disaster response operations. As such, I am committed to tirelessly nurturing and strengthening relationships with our government partners and the public in which I serve. Disaster does not wait for everyone to be prepared, it strikes without warning, with this in mind,...

...producing vital documents. If you are good with your time management you become a reliable and useful member of the team by regularly completing tasks within the given time. Also, during our drill weeks we showed time management by making sure we were in correct kit before the lesson if we had a previous lesson which potentially could make us late. Attitude- A positive for a having good attitude within the UPS is tasks are completed to your full ability and your team mates and commanding officeking officers will look at you and see you take pride with what you do and respect the role you have within the chosen Public Service. A negative of personal presentation is people may think you take the role too seriously and this could cause discrimination within the workplace. For example, if you are an officer patrolling the streets and your personal presentation is poor the public will not respect the authority you havnd respected member of the force making promotion a possibility. A negative for reliability is that people become too reliant upon you and could lead to issues around your private life. For example, if you begin to cover peoples shift due to their illness, during your time of leave or absence, people will start to ask if you are available to work when there are other people capable to cover them. Also during our drill week our reliability had to be good otherwise the group would get punished and the group would become upset with you. This could also cause......

...of the EU member’s countries. They focus all parts from consumer rights to the task of protecting people being killed from dictators and militias. They also attempt to raise country's economic standing and try to develop countries so they are self-sufficient. The European Parliament is the only directly elected by EU body and it represents the people of the EU. Elections have been held every five years since 1979. The last elections were in May 2014. Before that members were chosen from national parliament. The parliament amends, approves or rejects EU laws, together with the Council of Ministers. The parliament also shares authority over the EU budget with the Council of Ministers and supervises other EU institutions, including the Commission. Two of the main responsibilities of the European parliament (EP) are immigration and environment. Immigration - The European parliaments control the inflow of migrants that go into each country, and how many of the migrants go into each country. Their objective is to set up a balanced approach in dealing with legal migration and fighting illegal immigration. Parliament actively supports the introduction of a European immigration policy. The reason the European parliament have this responsibility is to make sure Europe runs smoothly. With the control of immigration they can control the exact amount of migrants each country get. The advantage of this being in the hands of the EP is that each country that is a part of the EU does......

...Transcript of Positive and negative images of the public services Positive and negative images of the public services FONTS Brutality Corruption Racism Racism has long been a charge leveled at the Public services by the media, for example the Brixton riots in the 80's, stopping and searching black youths in the 1990's or the lack of recruitment of ethnic minority officers. How ever it took the murder of Stephen Lawrence to put the subject on the political and media agenda. Brutality The media shows incidents of the Public services portraying them as if they are using excessive force. Sometimes their claims are unfunded and damage the public perception of the Police. Image of the Public services The public services are portrayed in a variety of different ways by the media. The coverage can be both real, such as Police interceptors or through fictional programs such as Casualty or The Bill. ( And we all know Bradshaw loves The Bill :) A UK study shows that The Sun newspaper dedicates around 30 per cent to crime news. This highlights the time and energy spent on the portrayal of the Public services. Blind obedience The media sometimes choose to portray the public services as lacking discipline and judgement if they blindly obedient when following orders. Blind obedience An example of this was the Hillsborough disaster when West Midlands Police ran their own inquiry into the handling of the disaster by South Yorkshire Police, who orchestrated a cover-up, falsified...

...PUBIC ADMINISTRATION ASSIGNMENT THE PUBLIC SERVICES AND HOW THEY CAN BE MORE RESPONSIVE TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR CLIENTS. Our choice of public service for discussion shall be centered on the Ghana immigration service: The Ghana immigration service is mandated Under PNDC Law 226 (1989) and are granted the sole mandate to regulate and monitor the entry, residence, employment and the exit of foreigners in Ghana. This mandate was renewed and expanded through the passage of the Immigration Act, 2000 in the administration and governance of their operations they are subject to the laws of the land. Their operational duties are governed or influenced by thirteen domestic legal instruments. They are also subject to interpretations of the numerous international conventions, protocols, directives and accords which the state has ratified. Their mission statement is to build a stronger and better Ghana by operating fair but firm immigration controls that regulates and facilitates the movement of people through Ghana’s borders and efficient, effective residence and work permit systems that meet the social and economic needs of the country. But currently the services lack a migration policy. The basic assumption has been that Ghana is a nation of emigration, whereas in fact it has become a nation absorbing large-scale immigration beyond the scope of controlling legislation to manage. Ghana has limited coherence in its immigration law. It lacks vision and long-term goals and has limited......
