Legal and Ethical Considerations in Marketing, Product Safety, and Intellectual Property Ethical dilemma may be defined as a situation where one has to make a decision but the decision to be made has some impact on either of the choices taken. In different organizations, there are times where a manager may be faced by ethical dilemmas that he or she is supposed to look into. The process may be difficult since the manager has to deal with such situations without discriminating on any individual. Any activity that relate to business management in relation to the society, consumers, and the business itself should consider all ethical issues relating to the environment. It is important for business owners to alight ethical issues to their business plans. Ethical issues may relate to advertising and marketing, regulation of product safety, and intellectual property. Marketing and advertising, relating to any industry in the market, may have different forms of ethical issues. For example, advertising may be unethical when the content in the advertisement has unethical issues such as the use of harsh language or pictures that may not be pleasant to all age groups (Ashcroft, 2007). It is important for advertising agencies to consider all ethical factors while posting any advertisement to the public. In addition, marketing may lead to unethical issues such as pollution to the environment and trespassing. Some marketing activities involve showing consumers how products work. The waste used in these marketing activities may at times not be well disposed off, which may lead to environmental pollution. ...Explain how the properties of water are important to plants/animals. All living things contain water. Water is the main constitute of all organisms. Mammals consist of around 65% water. Water is the solvent, the medium and the participant in most of the chemical reactions occurring in our environment. The properties of water are extremely important to plants and animals for many reasons. Firstly, water is transparent which allows light to filter into aquatic environments, and therefore aquatic plants can absorb light and perform photosynthesis. Since all plants originated in the ocean, the transparency of water has had a major influence on life as we know it. Secondly, water is also cohesive, meaning it binds to itself, due to the polarity of the water molecule. The positive, hydrogen side of the molecule binds to the negative, oxygen side of another water molecule. This bond is called a hydrogen bond. Water is also adhesive, meaning it binds to other things around it. This property allows for transport of water against gravity in plants. We live in a world where it only takes time for a code, security measure, or restriction to be hacked. I have come to terms that stopping it completely is next to impossible but I could put measures in place where it would take someone a very long time to figure out how to bypass protection in hopes of deterring people not to do so. The first measure would be to have registration and activation on software. This process would have the information of the owner and the machine that is installed on. Another thing to be considered is instead of making the physical disc I would distribute for sale online where customers would have a digital locker that would only give them permissions to install the program and not be able to make a copy. If there was a need to make physical disc it would have to run on a hardware dongle. Digidesign, the makers of ProTools uses this concept and calls it iLok. (support iLok, 2012) Digidesign’s iLok houses all of the customer’s authorizations and activation keys and needs to be connected in order to use software I believe these would be the steps to take in order to limit unauthorized copies and sharing. Free Software or Open Source Software have been typically attacked by people who do appear to believe quite strongly in property ownership. If you create something, they would argue, then you are entitled to control it. How else are you gonna get compensated for it? I of course agree to this extent, but I don't quite agree with the typical progression of this argument which sees the fact that most Free Software is given away or distributed under terms which allow free copying and sharing to be an affront to this right to compensation. Ignoring for the moment the fact that the software developer still gets to choose whether to distribute under those terms (something (s)he'd be able to do to a large extent even if copyright was abolished today), this argument fails to take into account the fundamental nature of software which excludes it from the possibility of being owned, unless you consider a program as one with the medium. Software cannot exist on its own. It always needs a medium. Software are simply arrangements of ones and zeros represented one way or another by physical properties of a medium such as micro or nanoscopic dents in a compact disk.
