The collaborative strategy in the Taiwan shoe industry

Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to elaborate the reason behind a sustainable guanxi network through the introduction of the collaborative strategy in the Taiwanese shoe industry. Design/methodology/approach – Literature review in the area of Chinese business culture, and guanxi network is used to elaborate the information obtained from the company. Findings – This paper highlights that the belief of sincerity and trustworthiness has refined to the organization culture that supports the sustainability of Taiwanese guanxi network. Besides, the transaction cost theory, resource-based view, and specific relationship investment has become a hinder strategy for Taiwanese organization to maintain the business relationship. This paper introduces an interesting collaborative strategy between three parties, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier, the machinery manufacturer, and the end-user (the branding). Although there is no direct business flows between the end-user and the machinery manufacturer, the specific relationship investment between these two parties are tight and cannot be separated. This has ensured the proper business flows between the OEM supplier and the end-user as well as the OEM supplier and the machinery manufacturer. Originality/value – This paper illustrates that a guanxi network is not sufficient to ensure a long-term business relationship to be established. ...Strengths and Weaknesses of Biological Explanations of Criminal Behaviour Positivist criminology began towards the late 18th century and early 19th century and contrasted with Cesare Becharios early ideas of classicism. Positivism which arrived after classicism looked at criminal behaviour from a completely different perspective. Positivism looked at the offender rather than that of the crime. Positivism can be separated into three main areas, Biological, Psychological and Sociological. These three areas give explanations on why the offender commits acts of criminal activity and also help to provide answers to why there is crime in society. In this essay there will be analysis on the biological theory to positivism. In doing so theorists such as Cesare Lombroso, Hans Brunner and Gall will be explored in an aim to explain the strengths and weaknesses of their theories. This essay will feature an insight towards outlining positivism by expressing knowledge into the biological side of the subject. Biological positivism was focused on the ideas put forward that criminals were born bad. Work by Italian Professor and criminologist Cesare Lombroso spoke about activism and how criminals were people who had not evolved sufficiently enough from our earlier ancestors. ...Debate Focus The federal bill H.R. 724 is known as the America’s Partnership for Nursing Education Act of 2009. The focus of this bill is to amend the Public Health Service Act by authorizing grants to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty. The anticipated nursing shortage in any state of less than 555 nurses per 100,000 capita by 2020 qualifies a state for this grant. The nursing faculty shortage jeopardizes patient care and causes health care costs to rise. Recruitment and retention must be a focus as qualified applicants are few. Grants are available to states that implement or are in the process of implementing a program in conjunction with at least one college or university to address the nursing faculty shortage. This is a partnership that not only addresses recruitment but assists in the retention of faculty. The qualifying states are to use the grant money, in addition to its current funds, to pay for programs that intend to decrease the nursing and faculty shortage and compensate current nursing faculty. The receiving state must not use the grant money for capital investments. The minimum grant amount is 2 Million dollars for the budgetary year and the receiving states must submit an annual report showing that the money was used appropriately and that there is still a nursing faculty shortage. ...Debate The technique of persuasive argument is a skill that you must acquire in order to participate in a successful debate. The art of being eloquent, choosing your words wisely, and being able to think on your feet, encompasses many of the components that any debater should be able to handle. In our first debate last week, we got off to a bit of an awkward, slow start. A few of us were confused on the format, when to speak, and what to say next. After several people went up and read their paper, it was time for rebuttals. Certain people had no problem getting up in front of the class, and vehemently stating their position on the topic at hand. Once we were able to rebuttal with more ease, the debate went on a little more smoothly. In the middle of the debate, people didn’t want to end the argument as early as we did. We began to think more critically, coming up with better counterarguments and ideas. Considering this was our first debate, I would have to give it a six out of ten. Both teams were strong in some areas, and weak in others. Over time we will become stronger debaters and be able to develop and hone our skills. As we use the middle school format more often, we will become use to it and be prepared with a closing speech from both sides and a stronger opening argument. Yet after a certain age around ten years children should begin learning that not everyone is a winner. As they get older they should know what it feels like to lose and they should know what it feels like when they really have accomplished something. Then the counter-arguments against Steven Pinker’s conception of the “human animal” developed into an essay arguing that the New Positivism, not science, or technology per say, was the enemy of humanism and its avatars as such. ...Debates What is debate?  Many people ask and others use the word on time to time basis, but yet many do not really understand the concept.  A debate is a more formal way or contest between two individuals or teams that allows both to reach their different points of view in a non-insulting matter.  If asked for a more broadly in depth explanation, one might be told that it is a vital tool used for maintaining and developing.  Because two opposing sides have a debate over a certain topics does not guarantee they will end in a result of agreement.
