Trade union is an organization that consists of workers who is wanted to improve the terms and condition in the workplace. In Singapore, trade union has defined as any organization of employers or employees have main objectives. First of the objective is to establish relation in the economy. Another objective is to create a win- win situation for both employee and the employer; this objective also will be effect to Singapore economy. Lastly is to create a better standardized working environment for the employee and employer.

The impact of union is to improve worker safety, increase salary for union workers, to end child labor practices, raise the standard of living, reduce working hours in a week and give other benefits.

From the survey in 1994 by former Secretary of Labor John Dunlop, 59 percent of employees said that they employer will dislike them if they support an organization and 79 percent of employees agreed if employees who are trying to organize the union, they will more likely to get fired.

In Singapore, under section 2 of the Trade Union Act says that any person aged 16 and above and who is hired under a contract of services can join a union. Government employees other than those in the Police force and Armed Forces can join unions.

NTUC is one of federation of unions in Singapore which formed in 2001 until now. The main objectives of the NTUC are: ❖ To help Singapore stay competitive ❖ To help worker to remain employable for life ❖ To enhance the social status and well being of workers ❖ To build a strong, responsible and caring labor movement

Management strategies and practices between unionized and non-unionized workplace environments have many differences and has been then focus of many studies. He is pushing for a bill that has every union worker in an uproar. The bill will cause most state, local, and school employees to pay half their pension costs. The bill will also require them to pay double their current contribution of 12.6 percent to health-care costs. Union workers, with the exception of police, firefighters, and troopers, will lose their collective bargaining power on everything besides wages. However, raises in pay will be from the sole result of inflation. This bill will also require elections to be held every year by all non-law-enforcement unions in order to stay certified. The article discusses the significance of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) or Wagner Act regulated by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRA is a federal law that protects employee’s right to organize and engage in concerted activities and bargain with their employers. Furthermore, unions can have a sizeable effect on both unionized and non-unionized employees; in addition, to their pay and employment. I have however been through a union election, and the election that is a part of that. I am not a fan of those processes because they can take away from productivity, and cause a low morale at the workplace. ...Questions often arise about whether an employer can enforce a dress code on employees. And the answer is – there is no simple answer. As with so many legal matters, the answer is influenced by the facts and the circumstances of each particular case. This article will attempt to provide some guidance. Consider first, a workplace with a collective agreement governing a unionized workforce. A dress code is viewed as any other rule which management wishes to implement. It cannot be inconsistent with any provision of the Collective Agreement, it must be reasonable, it must be known to the employees and it must be enforced consistently. In assessing the reasonableness of dress codes, arbitrators balance the rights of employees and the rights of employers. Even though we are all capable of communicating, not everyone is an effective communicator. The ability to communicate effectively is essential in the workplace. I am going to focus on the importance of becoming a more effective communicator in the workplace through nonverbal communication. Kory Floyd suggests that we often relay more information through nonverbal communication, than we do by using words alone (Floyd p. 211). Floyd suggests that since our nonverbal communication is going to convey the majority have what we intend to say it is important to understand what our nonverbal behavior is saying and it is also important to use how to use nonverbal communication to our advantage. Generally, when people hear the word nonverbal they think of hand gestures and facial expressions. However, there is much more to it than that. Edward G.
