Well here is the story of a few jeeps...
In the short time between school, homework, and Target, my free time is most enjoyed off-road in my Jeep. Chandler, Clayton, and the bass pond will keep me occupied for years to come. As long as I have a Jeep I will continue my quest to explore more trails such as The Rubicon, or Moab.
The first Jeep I purchased was a 1986 Cherokee Laredo. At the time the four-wheel drive didn’t work and I didn’t care much. Weeks later I could be found cutting through the occasional field or going through a little mud. I soon learned the need for four wheel drive after a few scary situations last summer. It was about 1 A.M. and I was driving in a ditch with slippery grass from morning dew. In the ditch there was a tall grassy hill that I was thinking about driving up. With a little encouragement from my friend, I charged up the hill and as I reached the crest, my tires started slipping, as did obscenities. We slowly descended backwards down the hill, because the brakes weren’t doing their job. The pace picked up, and fear and uncertainty were riding shotgun as we turned 90 degrees on the hill. I thought a roll was inevitable as we were sliding sideways, so I hit the throttle and we slid around and then the Jeep were facing the bottom of the hill.
A few weeks later I got the four wheel drive working, and since then I’ve put my passengers through more fear and fun. Ignorance and adrenalin had got me high centered in the cold raining boonies, up to my knees in mud. I’ve quickly taken note of a few essentials you need to bring with you; a friend with a four-wheel drive equipped vehicle, a tow strap, and a cell phone for extra piece of mind. The cell phone has saved me a lot of trouble a few times. It rescued me and a few of my friends from the boonies at 3 in the morning and saved my friend Chris, his friend and I a long walk.
A tow strap and…...

At this point in my life, one thing I love the most is the sport of basketball. I have a real passion for the game, and it’s something I truly love and can’t live without. The sport of basketball is known as a fun past time for any person young or old. Basketball is a great way of exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and possibly make some new ones. I love to watch and play the game, basketball is a very entertaining sport and can be played by anyone. Basketball has many negative and positive effects about it based on my opinion. Basketball is known as a good pastime in many people’s eyes but can also be seen as a passion for many others. Basketball in my opinion the best thing I can do with my friends to have fun while burning a few calories. I see basketball as a fun and easy way to have fun rather than sitting on the couch all day playing video games or watching television. One reason I love basketball is because you need only yourself to play the game or, you can play with teammates. I prefer to have others to play with rather than just playing alone. To me there is not only one word that I can describe basketball. You meet tons of people and you are able to play with your friends for hours without getting one thought of boredom. One thing I love about basketball is that people have many......

I can listen to music of any kind when I’m doing a translation, I like it, it helps me even, but if I’m doing some complex maths then I have to have silence. It depends on the level of concentration that’s needed, I guess.” Rachel: “No, it has to be complete silence for me. It’s a real problem actually because I live in a shared house with lots of other students in the middle of a noisy city. It’s very difficult to get real peace and quiet. When I can I go back to my parents who live out in the country. It’s good when I have lots of exams to study for because it’s so peaceful out there – no disturbances at all!” Romesh: “A bit of background buzz in the office is essential for me. I like working in a lively atmosphere, people around, chat, the radio on perhaps. It generates an energy which I find helps me concentrate. I once came in to work on a Sunday when I had a big project to finish off – the deadline was the next day – and I thought it would be quiet on a Sunday, no one else around. Gorilla, My Love - Pof

...Michael Martin Donald Partain ENGL 102-01 September 6, 2013 Betrayal in “Gorilla, My Love” In the short story “Gorilla, My Love” by Toni Cade Bambara a young girl named Hazel feels betrayed by adults who do not treat children with respect and honesty. In the story Hazel is riding in the car with Granddaddy Vale, Hunca Bubba, and her little brother, Baby Jason. Bubba believes he has started a new chapter in his life, so he wants his family to refer to him as Jefferson Winston Vale. He shows them a picture of his girlfriend. Seeing that picture triggered a memory of when she went to the movies to see Gorilla, My Love. Seeing that picture of Bubba’s girlfriend reminded her of how betrayed she felt from the movie. Bambara shows that Children’s exact understanding of the truth shows their childishness, as adults often find white lies essential to avoid hurt feelings, causing a sense of betrayal in the children’s minds. Hazel feels that betrayal can come from adults in the society. When Hazel went to the movies to see the film Gorilla, My Love she became disappointed when she found out the movie was not what she expected. She said, “So the movie come on and right away it's this churchy music and clearly not about no gorilla. Bout Jesus.” She felt betrayed as if the theatre betrayed her and lied to her. She thought the movie was going to actually be about gorillas, so Hazel didn’t expect it to be a religious movie. Hazel, thinking she is always right, went back to the ticket...

Gorilla, My Love

...Barbara James Dr Iris Johnson English 1302 October 2, 2010 Short Story Analysis Essay: Final Draft Gorilla, My Love Toni Cade Bambera's brief short story "Gorilla, My Love" provides a humorous, yet touching, look at a young girl's first experience with unrequited love. One of the first things I noticed about the story is that it is told from the point of view of a child, a young girl named Hazel. In order to use this storytelling technique effectively, the author uses a series of seemingly unrelated and random incidents, similar to the way in which a child would speak, to illustrate Hazel's reaction to the news that her uncle is planning to marry. At the beginning of the story I found it hard to believe that by the end of the story Hazel will be reduced to tears. While admittedly easily frightened, Hazel seems to be quite self-assured and confident. She has no problem telling us that she is "the smartest kids P.S. 186 ever had in its whole lifetime" or that her grandfather believes that Baby Jason would "follow me into the fiery furnace if I say come on." Given this air of bravado, her emotional reaction to the news that her beloved uncle is marrying someone else is somewhat surprising. However, after taking time to remember that Hazel is a little girl, I can better understand why she reacts as she does. The main theme of "Gorilla, My Love," is of betryal. Specifically, Hazel comes to believe that adults, who should have children's best interests at heart, cannot...

Love of My Life

...that one day I would meet my prince charming. That one day he would take me away, love me, spoil me and grant every wish I had, and that we would live happily ever after. I grew up on fairy tales and M&B novels! It is everyone’s desire to have a life partner, a companion to share his/her life, dreams, joy and sorrow with. And I was no different in nurturing this desire. Every time I attended any wedding I used to wonder when it would be my turn; when would I become a bride. Most importantly: where the hell is he, my prince charming? Time passed by and still there was no prince charming in sight! I resigned myself to the bitter fact that I am doomed to spend the rest of my life alone, without love. Being physically disabled I didn’t want to be a burden on anyone, especially as a financial burden. I threw myself in my career, secretly holding on to the assumption that there is someone out there for everyone. Besides, Allah in the Holy Quran says: “Among His proofs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, in order to have tranquility and contentment with each other, and He placed in your hearts love and care towards your spouses. In this, there are sufficient proofs for people who think.” [30:21] There is someone out there for me also. My prince charming will come. When? Then I met this falcon-eyed man with the most beautiful voice I had ever heard. With just one meeting I had slipped, stumbled and fallen head over heels in love with him! He was......

My Definition of Love

...My Definition of Love Love has so many definitions which it makes impossible to define precisely. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most difficult questions to answer. “I can’t stop thinking about you.” That’s one definition of love. The Bible says “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” (1st Corinthians 13:5-7). In order for me to give you my best definition of love, I would have to use the four types of love given by the ancient Greek philosophers. They are phileo, the love of friendship; storge, the love of family and relatives; eros, the love of affection and obsession; and agape, the unconditional love. Phileo, the love of friendship, is not sexual in nature. Phileo basically covers everything that has to do with a friendly affection of one person to another. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and their community. Phileo love truly describes friendship and the bonds that are strengthened by shared experiences. Most of us have at least someone that we call best friend. The tender affection we have for them is an example of phileo. Storge means family affection between family members. It is extremely important for all human beings, children and adults. It is natural......

Gorilla My Love

...Gorilla My Love • Themes Betrayal The main theme of "Gorilla, My Love," and the thread that ties the two sections of the story together, is the idea of betrayal. Specifically, Hazel comes to believe that adults, who should have children's best interests at heart, cannot in fact be trusted to tell the truth where children are concerned. In the middle section of the story, which comes first chronologically, Hazel has already learned that "Grownups figure they can treat you just anyhow. Which burns me up?" She demands her money back from the theater because "I get so tired grownups messin over kids just cause they little and can't take em to court." But she does not have in mind the adult members of her own family. They have taught her to be truthful and to hold people to their word. As Granddaddy Vale puts it, "if that's what I said, then that's it." In a world where adults routinely take advantage of children, being able to count on one's family (as gangsters can count on their partners) is important protection. But Hunca Bubba has not only changed his name to Jefferson Winston Vale but decided to marry a woman his own age, and Hazel's family seems to be offering only double-talk in his defense. He is not changing his name, but changing it back, they say. The promise to marry Hazel was "just teasin," not a real promise at all. This strikes Hazel as the ultimate betrayal, because now her beloved uncle and Granddaddy show themselves to be no better than the rest of them.......

Meet My Love

...imagination clear. Take a trip with me to a place I love. It is about 4:30 in the morning in early October. We are in Northern Vermont, deemed by many to be “God’s Country.” We have bundled ourselves in long underwear and other layers of clothing. We touched our outfit off with a bit of camouflage, and a some face paint to boot. We are standing at the base of our destination. The smells of this natural beauty have us entranced the moment we climb out of the man-made beast. We both take a deep breath and sigh, the air filling our lungs with a godly vitality. You lookat me and smile as though you are five years old again and just received you first Christmas present. Your white teeth and eyes are the only way to pick your outline out of the surrounding darkness. The camouflage is working, and we are becoming parts of nature. Now, its outline just visible against the stars of the night, we see the mountain. Turning to face the foreboding darkness and sounds of the night, we gather our courage and silently plunge into the underbrush. The wet leaves make no sound under our work boot clad feet, and the branches we brush against bend to our will. As our eyes become accustomed to the darkness we use our penlights sparingly. You jump as a bat glides silently through the darkness in front of us, you breath coming out in a gasp. The hoot of an owl breaks the silence, and we look up to experience its silken take off from a high above branch. We continue on, still......
