Going Back to the Natural Way

“Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favour compared with the products of nature, the living cell of the plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life.”- Thomas Edison. Even a scientist himself believed that no chemicals that overshadowed the importance of nature can equal its greatness. Edison further stated that future doctors would not give medicine to is patients but rather interest his patients in the care and prevention of disease. The use of natural medicines was dated as early as ancient Sumerians period. The book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the bible states God had created every green herb for meat. Only in these recent years have scientists have been interested to the study of the herbal or alternative medicine. As medical science progresses, more mysteries are uncovered. Paraphernalia to this, we tend to forget the laws that govern the universe, the equilibrium of body energies, and the sources that young science originated from. Due to the new, advances and captivating things that medical technology entails, inorganic compounds and chemicals had buried the organic sources which are in fact the very beginning of medicine. We tend to overlook that nature cures the disease while the young medical science only satisfy the desperation of the people to feel well in a short period of time. Though the use of Western (inorganic or chemical) Medicine is already proven efficient, natural medicine is still the best way to boost health. From the word natural, obviously, everyone would or should know that natural medicines have all-natural ingredients. These means that mostly all herbal medicine comes…...

Going Back to College

...Jeremy Johnson English 111-A Reflection Essay November 5, 2012 “Going back to College” College is something that most high school seniors look forward to every year. This is an exciting new endeavor that they long for after graduating from high school. Many high school seniors take different paths when they graduate, but few understand the dedication required to achieve their dreams. My views were the same after graduating, but my journey took a much different direction. Originally signing and planning to go to UNCC, I passed up my athletic scholarship for a professional baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers. College was something that I felt could be done at any stage of my life, and my chance to play professional baseball was something that I may never get a chance to do again. I enjoyed every minute of every day that I played, but sometimes I wonder where I would be today if I had passed up that professional contract. Would I have gotten the chance to experience thousands of fans cheering my team on, or the never ending bus trips from city to city ? My eleven years of playing experience taught me the dedication that one must have to achieve a goal that few would attempt. Long hours in the gym, throwing bullpens, and worst of all running. These were just a few of the things I would have to do on a daily basis both in season and out of season. I hate running more than anything but this was required to be a successful pitcher. Reaching my goal of......

Three Ways to Nurse a Dying Houseplant Back to Life

...Rose Dickens ENG 101-55 July 1, 2009 Essay One 653 words Three Ways to Nurse a Dying Houseplant Back to Life When initially brought home, the houseplant was green and vibrant. It might have even been blooming. Now, a few months later, it looks as though it had survived a hurricane. The leaves looking wilted have brown or yellow spots on them. Perhaps the poor plant has lost most of its leaves altogether. No longer looking strong and regal, it has developed a very sickly appearance. The plant looks as though it is on the brink of death. For there are three main reasons your plant may be on the verge of its demise, it could be that it is being incorrectly watered, it could need transplanting, or locating it to a new setting is necessary. How much water to give a houseplant can be one of the most frustrating aspects to its owner. When a plant gets too much water, it causes the leaves to turn an ugly yellow color. The opposite is true when we tend to withhold watering for too long. This causes the leaves to turn brown and dried out. Most plants need watered once every couple of weeks, but then there are those who prefer a more arid soil. The cactus plant is one that rarely needs watering. Of course, there is always a lush in the group. A fern cannot seem to get enough water and would prefer a daily misting. Some plants such as the African Violet cannot tolerate water on its leaves. Sometimes adjusting the watering intervals and rate at which the water is given does not......

A Way Back Home

...window, “It had stopped snowing some two or three hours back” (Larsen 110). This means that the weather is still rather cold and despite the freezing temperature, Irene still sits beside the window. Another reason why Irene would want to open the window is because she wants to smoke her cigar. She politely uses the warm temperature in the room as her excuse to open the window. Although this action may seem reasonable today, during the 1930s, there was no social etiquette that required opening a window to smoke. The fact that Irene stays by the window after her smoke makes us question exactly what keeps her warm; perhaps it is her anger and rage towards Clare. Later when Irene finishes her cigar, she throws it out and “watch[es] the tiny spark drop slowly down to the white ground below” (Larsen 110). To Irene, the sense of falling is either giving her an inspiration for her actions against Clare or a practice run before the real deal. In addition, the falling cigar sparks are being described in a very beautiful manner. “Tiny spark drop” gives us the sense of something small light and shiny which moves in a relatively stable winter air mass. The small shiny bits of cigar also contrasts with the twinkle stars in the clear sky after the snow stops. The action of “slowly down” is a romanticized version of the falling flakes. As Irene focuses on the falling flakes, she is also picturing the falling of Clare in a very calm and elegant way as if Clare’s fate is justified and......

Paper on "The Natural"

...The Natural Sports Management 11/2/11 Movie Analysis “The Natural” is one of the most inspiring sports movies that I have ever seen. Matter of a fact it is one of the most inspiring movies that I have ever seen altogether. It is about a baseball player named Roy Hobbs, whose main goal in the movie is to become the best baseball player to ever play the game. It starts out with Roy throwing with his dad at their farm when Roy was a young kid. Then it jumps to a scene where it shows Roy’s dad dying of a heart attack under the tree that is in their front yard. Then it has Roy standing in front of his window one night just looking at the tree when a streak of lightening came down and struck the tree splitting it into two pieces. Now Roy took part of the tree and made a bat out of it and called it Wonderboy. Then it jumps to where Roy is at the age of just getting out of high school and it shows him talking to his girlfriend at the time, whose name was Iris. He was telling her that he had talked to a team out of Chicago and that he had a tryout with the team. As the movie goes a long, it shows him getting on a train with his agent, or the guy that found him and got his tryout, but also on the train it has a guy named Whammer on the train that is supposed to be the best baseball player that was ever going to play the game of baseball. So they stop at a carnival to enjoy their time and during this time Roy’s man that found him and another guy that was with the Whammer on the......

The Effect of Cyber-Crime and One Way to Fight Back

...The effect of cyber-crime and one way to fight back Travis Major Lynn University Jeanette Francis 08 June 2013 The cost of cybercrime to businesses For three years now cybercrime has continued to grow. During this time cyber-attacks have more than doubled, while hitting the financial side with an estimated 40 percent increase. The cost of cybercrime study in 2012, conducted by Ponemon Institute, found that cybercrime costs to a random sample of organizations averaged 8.9 million dollars. This spike is estimated to have increased the cost of cybercrime by 6 percent from 2011 and 38 percent from 2010. Also during this study it was discovered that there had been a huge increase of cyber-attacks, approximately 48 percent, with around 102 of them being successful per week. The number of successful attacks per week in 2010 was only around 50. More than 78 percent of the annual cybercrime can be labeled as denial of service, malicious code, malevolent insiders, and stolen or hijacked devices. Businesses have no choice but to spend an increasing amount of money, time, and energy in order to protect themselves against these cyber-attacks that seem to be reaching unsustainable levels. Even though some companies are finding ways to lower the cost of security measures, the cost of time and energy spent cannot be eased. No matter what the solution is, it will always take time to incorporate any security and energy to maintain those securities. Additional key findings include: ...

Going Back to School

...Why I decided to go back to school I would honestly have to say that my decision of going back to school has to be the most adult decision I have made. So many pros and cons were involved in this decision. Although going back to school can certainly be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, it is not a decision that I could make selfishly. A solid support structure is one of the keys to seceding in this journey. I needed to know that my fiance was willing and able to support me in the decision I made. I also needed my family’s support to know that the decision I made was the right one. A huge advantage of returning to school at an older age is that I will appreciate learning in a way that was not possible before. This life experience will give me a perspective of what life is really about. I fell like this time around I will enjoy learning and my grades will be reflective of this.   I needed to complete what I set out to do when I was younger. That is why I decided to finish school and actually finish something I have started. My parents also had a big part in my decision. I know that they worked really hard for us to go to school. I know that they will be very proud to see any of us finish school and show for it. Another big denominator in my decision was how now a days you are only worth anything if you have a degree. My decision was made because I want to make something out of myself, and I know that I am capable of doing it. I don’t want to have a......

Going Back to School

...might be a little crazy but I decided it’s time to go back to school. There are many factors that influenced this decision and although I have many reasons to be apprehensive, I know that with hard work, proper time management and a supportive family, the end result is going to be worth it. Going back to school was an easy decision. One of the main reasons I am returning is to attain my Community College of the Air Force degree. At this point in my career this degree is tied to my advancement. Without it, I can no longer be promoted. Without further promotion I will soon reach mandatory Air Force retirement age. As I look beyond my Air Force career, I realize that my future employment opportunities are also tied to my education. Without a degree, I will not be able to fulfill my desire to become a middle school football coach. In almost all school systems the sports coaches are required to be certified teaching staff. For the last two years I have been preaching to my thirteen and eleven year old sons about time management. Since going back to school, I have found myself in the same boat. Trying to manage family life, student demands, as well as work requirements has become difficult. Self doubt has also reared its ugly head. It has always been my job to motivate my kids and tell them that they only need to do their best, work hard, and they will succeed. While I love that the kids see that I am going back to school, the fear of not doing well sometimes......

Going Green

...Earth is yours. Save it! Name : Sanelisiwe Gomomo Laetitia Ngalula Aviwe Janeth Viwe Introduction What does it mean to Go Green? Going Green means that you have adopted certain practices and habits that reduce your overall impact on the environment. These practices may include anything from recycling, reducing your energy usage, using public transportation, to buying local products. Going green is quite important to the environment as well as our health. We will be able to breathe a little easier with less pollution in the air. Consider for a moment that a plastic soda bottle takes over 450 years to decompose, and that beer cans take 200 to 500 years to decompose. If these things are not recycled, or if a process isn't found to speed up decomposition, then we're going to wind up living in our own landfills. People all around the world consume billions of bottles and cans each and every single year, without a method to get rid of these items, our great grandchildren will still be seeing those same bottles and cans around, that alone is an important reason to go green. The Going Green Campaign is to ensure the earth will be a better place to live in future. I. INFORMATION ABOUT THE SERVICE The Going Green Campaign has been created to raise the awareness on the environment hazards we are facing today. There are many ways we can save our earth and prevent it from being destroyed. Our earth has lost a massive ideal environment for both animals and human to......

In What Ways May Disagreement Aid the Pursuit of Knowledge in the Natural and Human Sciences?

...disagreements. They argue about evidence or go out and seek new evidence.” This quote captures the essence of what this essay is going to cover. Disagreement opens room for questioning and reasoning.. In order to make the knowledge question that entitles this essay easier to understand, the “pursuit of knowledge” needs to be defined. The pursuit of knowledge is a famous term to define the inherent concept of humanity’s constant desire to know more. Personally this topic appeals to me as I have seen the substantial curiosity that children possess, but I believe this thirst for knowledge is very limited. All children want to hear is an answer, but they don’t question the sources or ask to see the evidence. When I noticed this trait in young children, I had an epiphany that if our global society followed this childish outlook on the world, the world and the education system wouldn’t be the same. I will elaborate upon two possible perspectives towards this question; either you believe that disagreement does aid the pursuit of knowledge or you believe that it doesn’t. I will demonstrate both perspectives by analyzing how the roles of logic and emotion help gain new knowledge in the sciences. Ideally the role of logic is applied towards the natural sciences, and the human sciences use emotion as a way of knowing. I believe that disagreement in the natural and human sciences opens up the opportunity to question what has been asserted, in order to ameliorate our current Truths, but......

Going Back to College

...I have learned a lot of things during this week’s course that I did not know before and that I found interesting in this class. My current method of completing a first draft is a simple one and that is to get as many ideas down on paper as quickly as I can. After reading this week’s chapters and previous weeks chapters, I have found that the best way to start is to ask who or what is going to be my intended audience. The goal of a first draft is to capture my ideas on paper and produce a rough version of the final essay. (Connelly, M. 2007). There are several strategies that I have learned for writing a first draft. Such as: review my plan, focus on my goal, write to my reader, visualize the completed document, support my thesis. Amend my plan if needed, and start to write. I also found proofreading and editing interesting in this week’s course. Proofreading is about searching your writing for errors, both grammatical and typos, before submitting my paper for an audience. Editing and proofreading are writing processes different from revising. Editing can involve extensive rewriting of sentences, but it usually focuses on sentences or even smaller elements of the text. Proofreading is the very last step writers go through to be sure that the text is presentable. there are many proofreading strategies such as: start with the problem areas, read from the end to the beginning, look for typos. Editing strategies......

Going Back to School

...Going back to school can be a major, life changing decision for most people with children, especially mothers. I always knew that I wanted to go to college after high school. But along with major decisions, sometimes in the mean time life can throw some curve balls. In spite of those curve balls and my growing family, I decided to take that big leap of faith. Deciding to go back to school has been one of the best decisions I could ever make. Okay so we will take time back to 2007, when I was pregnant with my fifth child and I decided to register for the Ged test. When I went in the morning of the test, I was so nervous, because I haven't been to school since 1998. Well what do you know? I passed the test with flying colors and my score were pretty high as well. As soon as I received my diploma in the mail, I immediately wanted to go to college. Unfortunately I knew it was almost impossible to start college and me fixing to have another baby, so I thought it would be better to wait awhile longer. Flash forward to 2008, my friend was enrolling in college and talked me into going in on it with her. I decided to enroll for my first time, only thing was it was online, so that made me super nervous. We ended up taking two courses together and did very well. But due to unfortunate tragedies in my family, I had to put school on the back burner again. After withdrawing I went on to having three more children! So by then I didn't think it would ever be possible to go back to......

Going Back to Our Innate Beauty

...Johnny Nguyen WR122-08 Dr. Celia Carlson 19 October 2015 Going Back to Our Innate Beauty Everyone has a memorable experience when they visit an art museum. Whether they are inspired or disappointed, they often leave with a good memory of at least one piece of art work. One memorable experience I had, was at the Portland Art Museum, in Downtown Portland, Oregon. The museum was presenting an exhibition, titled, “Seeing Nature,” from The Paul G. Allen Family Collection, which consisted of 39 landscape masterpieces. I went with two of my close friends. I remember sauntering through the hallways, getting lost in the somber landscapes by J.M.W. Turner, being enchanted by the colors in the iconic Monets, and being strangely moved by Georgia O’Keeffe’s fantastical flower paintings, all awhile sharing my thoughts amongst my dear friends. I saw that this experience was also shared amongst strangers and their families in the museum, and that is why human nature is fundamentally good, because we have the capacity to be profoundly affected by beauty. Most people among us, from theorists to philosophers to the commoner down the street, past and present, seek to finally answer that age-old question: is human nature fundamentally good or bad? Without this quest of examining and classifying our fundamental nature, we tend to become lost, and an unwanted sense of purposeless settles into our lives, putting a damp on our relationships and well-being. We seek to answer this question,......

...Week 2 Keys to effective learning ch. 4 The choice you make when setting your core values will affect your goals. Sometimes we have too many goals and we want to accomplish all of them at the same time, according to the reading it is best to set a goal because it makes you more focus on achieving this specific goal. It is difficult sometimes to choose which goal is more important to focus on but a choice needs to be made. There are short term and long term goal . Before we set either a short or long term goal, we need to be realistic , or which one is achievable. My short term goal is to write my 8 substantial notes in 3 different days but in order for me to do that I need to set up a schedule and rearrange my other daily activities. This is how I plan to achieve this short term goal. From Monday thru Friday , I will post 3 notes on Mondays alternating with Tuesday, 3 notes on Wednesday and 2 on Fridays. Thursdays to work on other papers besides the notes. And weekend for my family. I know there will be some inconvenience where I might not be able to post all 3 notes in one day but I will work around it. My long term goal term goal is to graduate in 2018 with MSN/ED .
