Emotional Thinking Style Emotional thinking will often involve very basic thought processes that are normally based on things that are already known, experiences, and events in life. How is critical thinking related to the emotional thinking style? Critical thinking enables each person to take active command of not only our thoughts, but our feelings, emotions, and desires. It is critical thinking which provides us with the mental tools needed to thoroughly understand how reasoning works, and how those tools can be used to take command of what we think, feel, desire, and do. Emotions are very important in everyday life and it drives each person to detailed attention, which in turn drives learning and memory. Emotions and instinct are part of human nature that is instilled in each and every person. Wen-Yu Chao (2006) states the following about emotional thinking “Emotions and feelings are not logical, but it doesn't mean they are bad. On the contrary, they are what make the world beautiful. Without them, we will lose music, paintings, sculptures, poems, and all wonderful creative work derived from the sensitive part of our mind. There is simply no way to argue without some sort of emotional bias. Emotions can be a great motivator for everything that happens in life. However, the emotional thinking style, unlike the logical thinking style, is often not based on a great deal of facts and it often requires very little thinking. The logical thinking style is usually based on facts that are well thought out and normally without bias. An example of emotional thinking is when a manager of daycare center learns that one of his employees that is in charge of opening the center is late and there is no one there to let the children in. The manager then calls that employee and receives voice mail at the employee’s residence. The manager, being upset, leaves a…...

...Thinking Critically Simulation Review Problem solving tools and techniques As a group we decided on using a couple of problem-solving tools, brainstorming and cause and effect/fishbone method. The first step we did was to define some of the problems facing Credenhill’s. The biggest problems were; sales falling continuously for the past eight weeks, (especially in the high-end product categories), legal action notice from the city, regarding a disability access law, high competition with a new store a block away, and a loss of a manager and employees to the competition, $80,000 unsold inventory, problems with the Wide Area Network (WAN), and unhappy employees. We use the Man-Method-Material-Machine format to help us organize our brainstorming solutions into categories. We started using brainstorming, all ideas presented were discussed and considered. Ideas were then added them to the fishbone under the correct category. It helped for all of us to brainstorm, generating numerous ideas to help fix the problems. After we were done with our brainstorming of ideas, each team member presented their idea more thoroughly. A letter was assigned a letter to each idea on the diagram, and each group member was given a piece of paper. On the paper we categorized the problems, causes, and ideas to fix the problem, then we went around our group, totaling the values. The highest ranking value was declining sales in the last eight weeks. We decided with more advertising, return......

With all these things going on inside the workplace, a person can easily lose focus which is why critical thinking is very important when inside the workplace. When a person is can properly critical think they are more likely to be to make calculated decisions, instead of making a rational choice a person thinks the problem through and considers the pro’s and the cons. In the social working field a person has to always have to be in my thinking because I work with the public and that can be a very stressful situation. I am case manager for “The Center for Family Resources,” which is a nonprofit organization that helps families with children under the age of 18 with rent assistance, food assistance, transitional housing, and G.E.D. programs. Critical Thinking Styles

...Different Styles of Critical Thinking and Decision Making Charles Cunningham, Stacy Graham, Daniel Kaelin, Tresha Yarberry, MGT/350 August 22, 2011 Hank Reeves Different Styles of Critical Thinking and Decision Making Logical thinking, scientific thinking, creative thinking, and optimistic thinking are a few of the different thinking styles used for critical thinking. A person has to know what type of problem he or she is dealing with to know what type of critical thinking style he or she would need to use. Knowing the difference of these four critical thinking styles will help people use critical thinking better. Logical Thinking Philosophy defines logic as the study of the essential truths and methodical methods for clearly expressing and thoroughly representing such truths (Jones, 1995). Logical thinking relates to the consistency of the facts and the validity of arguments. Critical thinking most closely resembles the logical thinking style in the rawest form as it should be unbiased and only influenced by proven factual information. Logic looks to common sense to determine the best action to take based on the desired outcome. The scientific thinking style is the most similar to the logical thinking style because it is based on valid arguments for taking a certain action. It rules out emotional thinking because it is biased and influenced by what is wanted by the parties involved. Dan’s company uses a software program for procurement......

Critical Thinking: Mgt 350

...Critical Thinking University Of Phoenix Mgt 350 March 25, 2008 Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness. It entails the examination of those structures or elements of thought implicit in all reasoning: purpose, problem, or question-at-issue, assumptions, concepts, empirical grounding; reasoning leading to conclusions, implications and consequences, objections from alternative viewpoints, and frame of reference. Critical thinking in being responsive to variable subject matter, issues, and purposes is incorporated in a family of interwoven modes of thinking, among them: scientific thinking, mathematical thinking, historical thinking, anthropological thinking, economic thinking, moral thinking, and philosophical thinking. I work for a company that manages properties (Timeshare Industry), on the first week of my employment; I was asked to evaluate the goal of improving the property’s competitiveness in the......

...Critical Thinking Application Paper Name MGT 350 Instructor Date Campus Critical Thinking Application Paper How do you think? How you think can be as important as what you think. When a person is faced with a problem, it is how a person thinks and acts on those thoughts that determine the outcome. To stay competitive organizations need to change or modify their methods of doing business as needs require. Everyday business professionals are presented with situations and problems, mundane and difficult, each requiring the person to use critical thinking. How that person analyses the situation can either benefit or hinder the organization. The decision making process is an important function of any business, critical thinking is the key to this process. What Is Critical Thinking?   “Critical thinking is the art of thinking about thinking while thinking in order to make thinking better. It involves three interwoven phases: it analyzes thinking, it evaluates thinking, and it improves thinking” (Paul & Elder, 2006, p. xvii). This tells us to think about the problem, analyze the problem, and solve the problem. To understand critical think a person must understand how to think.       Analysis allows the person to view a problem from different points of views, to study it and question it. When analyzing a problem the person must try to set aside any preconceived bias and view the problem objectively. The analysis step of critical thinking is the beginning...

...Critical Thinking Application Critical Thinking by some is thought to be as important as or more important than most material or physical items such as money, homes, or automobiles. So what is more important than critical thinking? Well, a couple of extreme examples to illuminate the point are food and water. They are without a doubt two of the most important items that our body requires for survival, and so it is with the application of critical thinking. In this paper I will discuss my understanding of critical thinking and relate it to a personal experience at work, showing its validity in the work environment. I will also explain its importance and benefits. Critical Thinking According to the National Counsel for Excellence in Critical Thinking Instruction, critical thinking is defined as “the mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in which the thinker improves his or her quality of thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them.”( Scriven, M., & Paul, R.,1987). Critical thinking involves how one goes about gathering, evaluating, and choosing information and the best methods in solving situations or problems. Critical thinkers are rational and focus strictly to the facts in order to analyze the issues at hand. They are open-minded to all possible options, think outside the box for new ideas, and recognize any bias in his or her thinking and decision making. Thinking is a part...

...University of Phoenix Critical Thinking: Strategies in Decision Making MGT/350 Critical Thinking Critical thinking is a way to process information that can be developed by people to gain a better sense of their own position in relation to their environment and the actions of those around them. It can be used to either clarify or cloud the information being processed depending on the level of development of the critical thinking skills. It can be said that everyone uses critical thinking but the degree which it is used will vary depending on the individual. A comparison between weak sense thinkers who do not have well developed critical thinking skills and fair minded thinkers that do illustrates this point. A weak sense thinker will ignore, rationalize, manipulate and sometimes lie to establish that their view is the correct one. This is because the individual does not utilize all of the tools to develop a more refined ability to process information and as a result they will not consider all of the viewpoints, questions and subsequent challenges that will arise. This is exemplified by radio talk show hosts who use rhetoric and in some cases insults and sheer volume to disparage and diminish their opponent’s views or politicians who will resort to cheating to win at any cost. These types of thinkers are also referred to as sophists. “Sophistry is the art of winning arguments regardless of whether there are problems in the thinking being used, regardless of whether......
