...Examining young children’s 1 The case study in this article presented the process of conceptual change in six-year olds. The process was described from two different view points: how the children’s conceptions change during the instructional process and how the social discussion during the experimental exploration can be seen in terms of the cognitive changes in children. Young children’s conceptual change has not been as widely studied as that in older students. The researcher in this case study suggested that conceptual changes as a party of the learning process should be viewed as a life long process, which begins before children enter school. Six-year-old children undergo floating and sinking during their conceptual change process. Winfield Professor Leverett Butts English Composition- ENG 115 Friday, November 22, 2012 Young children are not always the first people we think of when it comes to the stress factor. We tend to believe that they are living in their best years, however with changes in economic situations such as parents not remaining married, being exposed to violence, and even feeling the need to belong a child can become overwhelmed. According to Wikipedia contributors, stress in young children can be beneficial to proper growth and development if it is not persistent (2013). Stress in young children should be monitored by caregivers, teachers, and others to prevent youth from damaging brain developments, which may alter the child’s psychological and social growth. The three different levels of stress in children are: Positive Stress, Tolerable Stress and Toxic Stress. Positive stress encourages competence. Tolerable stress is more problematic but is brief. ...The Negative Effects of Video Games on Young Children The adoption of video games into modern culture has increased dramatically as technology has advanced over time. Early video games began as text based adventures often with few crude graphics but still had a cult like following of the few who had access to them. As technology improved video games began to be mass marketed to users of new video game console and personal computer systems. Thus began the integration of gaming into the everyday lives of people around the globe in what would become a multibillion dollar industry. Numerous companies, such as Nintendo and Sony, began creating video games that would capture the minds and imagination of millions with the hopes of becoming a major part in the everyday lives of their customers. Unfortunately for the end consumer the costs have not always outweighed the benefits. As industry titans compete for consumer attention the science of improving gaming and technology to support it has become so skilled that the end users can become victims of their own fixations of alternate realities and antisocial social gaming. This essay seeks to identify the problems associated with video game use and its impact on consumers - particularly children. The affects of video games on consumers has been studied from many different perspectives over the years as the industry has grown. There are seven main legislations and frameworks that I will be explaining and they are as follows; United Nations Convention on the rights of the child (1989), the children act (1998, updated in 2004), every child matters (2003), the data protection act (1998), framework for the assessment of children in need and their parents (2000), common framework (England) and the human rights act (1998).
