Dumes Day Photo’s The Nobel Peace Prize 2007 was awarded to Albert Arnold Gore Jr. and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their “efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundation for the measures that are needed to counter act such change” (nobelpeace.org), through the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Al Gore has been on the front lines of the war on global warming, and in his words declares that “we should prepare against other threats besides terrorism” (Gore, 2006). In this documentary Gore cites a variety of scientific methods used to convince the public of the devastating effects of global warming. One of these scientific methods used to support his point is the use of photographs to demonstrate the destruction caused by global warming in places such as Mount Kilimanjaro. In this specific instance he informs the viewer that “within the decade, there will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro,” (Gore, 2006) and uses a photo taken 30 years ago compared to a photo taken in 2005 to illustrate this statement. Researchers and Scientists must reframe from using photographs as supporting evidence for their findings on global warming, because photographs have only been in existence since 1826, photographs can be altered, and they evoke powerful emotive effects on the viewer that are not based on facts. After many attempts and many failures, “[t]he first permanent photograph was made in 1826 by Joseph Niephore Niepce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris” (Camera, 2008). Joseph had been working on the camera for over 26 years, and by his 47th birthday, he got it right. And from that day forward, the camera took off, capturing all of the events of the last two centuries, eventually finding its way from that first wooden box to the tiniest of cell…...

The Last Day

...Among them are ‘As-sa’ah ,Al-waqiah and Al-Qariah.The name vary according to different spectacles of al-Akhirah and the purposes serves .Al-Akhirah is the day where this world comes to an end .The world will be in such devastating situation where no one will survive. Then, people from the dead will be revived and judged for what they have done during their time in the ‘dunya’. Humans move from one ‘alam’ to another and they will live eternally in the hereafter. If they die with iman in their hearts , they’ll surely get into heaven. Those who are being syirik to Allah S.W.T, they will be forever in hell. Surah Al-A’la verse 17, stated ’in akhirat is the better and everlasting’. On that very day of the end, humans will be in such condition where they will do the unthinkable. In surah Al Haj verse 1-2,it is said that On the Day when you witness it, the suckling woman shall utterly neglect the infant she suckles,2 and every pregnant woman shall cast her burden, and you will see people as though they are drunk, when they are not drunk; but dreadful shall be Allah's chastisement. First Day

...The beeping of my alarm clock sounded like a countdown. The first day of high school was only two hours away. I was excited, but a lot more nervous. I got out of bed, got ready, and then was on my way to the bus stop. All I could think of were the stories I heard about high school being so horrible with all the strict teachers, the really hard tests, and of course being a freshman didn’t help either. The bus ride to the school was only ten minutes, but it seemed a lot longer. When we finally got there, I was more nervous than ever. The day ahead of me was about to get a lot more complicated though with all the work, finding a seat at lunch, and getting lost. I just knew the first day of high school was going to be a memorable one. I drug my feet slowly, walking forward as I started looking at all the other kids; most of them were in their groups and were talking, laughing and smiling amongst themselves. It was very loud, almost as if I were in a football stadium. I could see teachers confronting the other students for wearing hats, having their IPod headphones in, or just causing mischief. I felt very small, like an ant, waiting to be crushed by someone. I opened the double glass office doors to a place with more people than I ever thought could fit into that small of an area. Everyone was elbow to elbow; it was like being in a sardine can. It turns out I was not the only one who was having difficulties finding my way around. I heard a loud......

Aid Day

...Assignment A Day of Disability It is never convenient when disability and impairment strikes. This is an all too familiar scenario for thousands of Canadians. One minute they are just like you and I, and the next minute they are adapting to serious injury or disease that alters their mobility, limits their participation in various events, and restricts their activities to a few that are accessible and acceptable. This assignment will expose you to the sudden adaptations that individuals, just like you must struggle with, when accommodating their new ‘abilities’ and carrying on with their chosen lifestyle as best they can. You will be taking on the position of an individual with an impairment. You will be given a variety of mobility aides to be used for 24 hours, wherever you go, whatever you do, to expose you to the advantages, challenges, and emotions that individuals with impairments experience while living with disability. Try to manage/maintain your ‘role’ for the full duration of the 24 hour period using the equipment provided. Don’t cheat by getting up and walking, or leave your equipment at home when you go out shopping. Perform all your plans and ADLs as usual but incorporate the physical challenge into your activity . Recruit help, modify your environment, detour if necessary, rethink how to carry on with your usual daily routine. When you return to school the following day you will give your equipment to a team member and they will begin their day......

Day to Day Effects

...Extra Credit 1 Every day, every minute, in fact every second, we are interacting and building connections with everything we see and do. For this assignment, I want to focus on my encounter with Starbucks staff. I probably am one of the biggest Starbucks fanatic anyone will every encounter. I love the thrill of going to Starbucks, and anticipating and thinking about what my new Starbucks concoction will be. Reflecting upon my Starbucks experiences, I have come to a conclusion of whether we know it or not, our unintended communications turn into a relationships that we fail to see. To test my thinking and prove it valid, I went to the Starbucks that I have been going to for years now. Here goes my thoughts, “What do I order? What am I feeling today? What is the new drink that came out?”. As I walked in, I examined the same feeling of thrill and excitement that rushes upon me. As I wait in the long, almost endless lines at Starbucks, I especially examine other people’s orders and get inspired for my order. As the line lessens, I am finally able to reach upon my decision of my order. Instantly, the woman taking my order my order found me quit familiar and said, “hello, how’s your day today? Would you like chai latte or caramel macchiato?” and I found it surprising on how she knew exactly what I want. Reflecting upon the situation, I realize how going to Starbucks often, I run into the same people, the same staff and essentially built a relationship that we don’t realize.......

A Day in Life

...How effectively do you think Rachel spent her day? In my opinion, how she spent her day is quite effectively.   Because she has a mixture of relax and hard-work modes. She can also manage her project on schedule and has a very good social relation by help other project that is behind schedule to be back on track. She has very good planning both in the morning and evening. However, if the communication breakdown was not occurring and no weekly status meeting, she will use only 20 minute to listen to their team members in one day. I think this is less than it should be.   Actually, the discussion between manager and group member is significant in order to keep project on track and build up their relationship. When the communication breakdown occurred, Rachel was not fear to face with the problem but on the other hand she shows her investigation skill by she immediate indentify the root causes of the problem by discuss with another department where the problem occurred. Also, after finish defining root cause she shows her good coordination skill by directly report to her boss and give her team know what is happening and reviewing the impact that could have on this project. Nevertheless, her project can follow schedule when she only met team member 20 minutes a day. This is maybe because of her ability to control / manage people. What does the case tell you about what it is like to be a project manager? Project manager is not like other managers because they have to deal......

Groundhog Day

...The movie Groundhog Day, is labeled as a comedy, but in fact it is a story about love, a story about Phil’s transformation based on love.  Phil his character is forced to repeat the same day over and over again. He goes through many phases in this movie and in the end changing his persona. When analyzing love, it becomes apparent that much has been written about it. In fact, love has been broken down into different phases such as Eros, Philia and Agape. Being trapped in Groundhog Day has significant effects on Phil’s practices of these three kinds of love Eros, Philia and Agape. One significant effect on Phil being trapped in Groundhog Day is his practice of Eros. According to the article, “Conceptions of Love”, Eros love can be divided into two definitions. One part of Eros is the “physical” attraction and the sensual desire towards someone. The other part of Eros states that with contemplation it can become a more romantic emotion and even appreciation of beauty itself. In terms of Eros being about physical attraction and desire, being trapped makes Phil’s practice of Eros exploitative. As seen in the movie, Groundhog Day, Phil abuses his entrapment to control the women he desires. He exploits people ruthlessly with no regard of their feelings. Phil seeks only the physical, sexual attraction and his only goal is to satisfy his pleasure. For example, when he picks up this woman in the dinner, named Nancy, he says he loves her and sweet talks her into having sex because he...

Day of Tears

...race, ethnicity, and culture are Day of Tears, by Julius Lester and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie. These award-winning novels illustrate the fact that the viewpoints of authors who are members of the minority groups about which they write have a unique perspective that can be universally appreciated. That these works of literature have universal appeal is a testament to the writing skills of both authors, as well as to the way in which each of them has blended historical fact and fiction, to paraphrase Mr. Lester in his Author’s Note in Day of Tears (175). Although both novels furnish us with multiple examples of how African-Americans and Native Americans were, and in the case of Diary, still are being mistreated at the hands of the white majority, they nevertheless serve to affirm the fact that the resilience of the children exposed to these horrors transcends a mere discussion of race because resilience is part of the human spirit. Both books are replete with examples proving this thesis. These novels are of recent vintage. Day of Tears was first published in 2005, while Diary was copyrighted in 2007. Both authors are “insiders,” that is to say, they are members of the minority groups that are the subjects of their writing. The book jacket of the paperback edition of Diary proclaims that the work is “inspired by his [Alexie’s] own experiences growing up.” We learn from Lester’s Author’s Note that Day of Tears was inspired by......

School Days

...School Days School Days When looking over my life as a child, I wanted to reflect on my childhood and teenage years. I grew up without both of my parents, therefore this was the most important part of my life. The reason these two experiences meant so much to me, because my sister made the decision to raise me. I can reflect back on these two situations that made me the woman I am today. I didn’t allow my life to stop me from receiving my education. My sister was my role model that I looked up too. Even though, my sister is no longer here I am still striving to achieve my education. I learned at an early age the importance of an education. My goal is to instill in my daughter the importance of an education. Microsystem My support came from my sister and this allowed me to go beyond the crying. I can remember in elementary school, I would cry all the time, because I didn’t like going. As a child growing up school was one of my less favorite places. I was a spoiled child by my father, therefore the only person I wanted to be with was him. I did not understand how important school was back then. It was so hard for me to adjust to other children at my school. I did not think about how staying home would affect my learning. Of course, my father tried to persuade me to go to school, but it still took time for me to realize how important getting my education. My father brought me hamburgers and all the food I love eating. One day when I got home from school, my...

A Day of Nothing and a Day of Activity

...A Day of Nothing and a Day of Activity From what I can recall, I did nothing of particular interest on February 8, so I shall elect to skip talking about it. To make up for the lack, I shall write an excruciatingly long entry for today. As is typical of an exchange student at Kansai Gaidai, I awoke only to begin my journey over to my Japanese class. In class, we played 'Who's Pen Is This?' in order to practice our previously learned grammar lesson. Next, we planned a pretend trip in order to practice another grammar lesson. Finally, we learned a new grammar point before departing. My next activity was to wait 40 minutes so that I could meat Saki and Chiaki again for lunch. This time, I brought my laptop along so that I could share photographs from back home. While waiting, I was joined by Wayne, a Chinese student who I had previously met, and Keisuke. At first, Keisuke swore that Wayne was a Japanese person, but after some effort to convince him otherwise, he believed that he was not. Come 11:30, I took my leave from the boys to join the girls in the cafeteria. Since it was rainy and drab awful outside today, Saki and Chiaki were waiting inside the cafeteria instead of the outside area where they usually wait. After getting food, we ate and talked some. Once finishing, we made our way to the CIE lounge so I could plug in my laptop and begin the show. A wise move plugging it in, I might add, as the presentation lasted about four hours. I began by showing pictures of my......

Freshmen Day

...How would you describe your experience in freshmen day? Last day we the first year students have a special day which is the freshmen day, and for me it was fun and exciting. It is composed of nstp students in Monday class to Saturday and I belong to the Thursday group. I say that the day which is the freshmen day is fun because of the happenings that we encounter, like the beat boxers or the one who uses their voices to create mixed sounds and it was so fun to hear. The excitements are not just the beat boxers it is also the one marine engineering student who impersonates the voices of some well-known personalities and cartoon characters, it was very entertaining because he does not just copy their voices; he gives the crowd the perfect voices of them. The other things that I encounter are the different kinds of singer because when ceremony doesn’t have singing it is quite boring. I say different kinds of singer because the singers have different ways and on how the way they sing their song and on how they act in the song, some singer’s songs rock music, having a partner to blend the song and the solo singer. I also encounter one singer that impersonates also a known character in an animated movie and I think that the crowd enjoys her singing and she is the only one who have “standing ovation”. Also, the freshmen day is not complete when it doesn’t have parlor games. It is also enjoy but not all of us managed to join because of every group from Monday to Saturday have......

Day-to-Day Stress

...Day-to-Day Stress Omar R. Hameen GEN/200 May 17, 2011 Barbara Alston Day-to-Day Stress In the following paper I would like to talk about a problem that causes stress my daily life. I will describe how to gather information to help me solve this problem and where the information can be obtained. In this paper I will talk about my experiences and how I deal various forms of stressors at home and in social settings. Daily stress Stress is a term used by many, is severly misunderstood, and often used to describe a negative condition or emotional state. It is our biological way of dealing with sudden changes in our life. The biggest stressor for me is fatigue.   Most days, my morning starts around 10 a.m.   By 11 a.m., I’m hurrying to the store to grab an energy drink then back home to work on school assignments and apply for jobs online.   At 12 a.m. I start my “work day”, which typically requires cleaning, preparing my daughter for school, and taking care of any outside work that needs to be done.   I usually find myself leaving home at 5 p.m. and heading to pick up my daughter from daycare.   Whether we go to the park, play some type of sports in the yard, or go on a bike ride; I spend the next 3 hours running around behind my 4 year old daughter, using my last bit of stored energy. When our playtime is done we head inside to do her school work and other learning activities.   Spending family time is important, so usually its dinner and a movie until...

That Day

...Life Changing Experiences By: Olivia Son Growing up in the country you could always find me outside playing with my friends or relatives. We would literally go outside the moment we woke up and would not come back inside until bedtime. Between riding four-wheelers, jumping on trampolines, and having mud fights you never knew what we might me getting into that day. I had my share of bumps and bruises along the way but I would not have changed a single minute of it. We all grow up thinking that we are invincible until something happens in your life that changes all that. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. It was a hot summer day just like any other and I was your typical fourteen-year-old girl who wanted to spend all her free time hanging out with her boyfriend. This day was no different. I woke up that morning and of course could not wait to spend time with him. Therefore, I rushed through breakfast and did everything that my mom had asked me to do before he was allowed to come over. Finally, he was at my house and we were deciding what we might get into. It was so hot outside so we decided that we would go swimming and ride my four-wheeler. We figured we would going four-wheeler riding first that way if we got dirty we could just jump into the pool when we got back and wash off. So we changed into our swim suits and headed out. Looking back wearing only a swim suit and flip flops to go riding might not of been the best idea but it was something......

Good Day vs Bad Day

...GS1145 Bendall Short Answer 5.1 Good Day vs Bad Day Breckinridge School of Nursing Barbara Walker Abstract Anyone working as a nursing assistant has chosen a very challenging path. Poor compensation, workplace politics, short staffing, conflict between coworkers, irate and difficult residents, miscommunication, heavy lifting and the loss of those for whom we care all make for a tough work environment. I definitely have locked myself in the linen closet to get myself together moments. So, why do I keep coming back? Why do I stay? First of all, I embrace the challenge. I thrive on it. In my life, it is a rare and beautiful thing to be able to bring order to chaos rather than the other way around. I work at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital and I have to say, the patients inspire me every day. We have a variety of patients; with cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, dementia, brain and spinal cord injuries and just knee or hip replacements that still laugh and love and find joy in nothing short of amazing. It’s such an incredible gift to be a part of their lives…to walk them through the tough days and celebrate with them during their triumphs. They have shown me the uselessness of the word impossible. They all touch my heart, and I hope I touch their heart too. Good Day vs Bad Day I have to say that I’m proud of the work that I do. Nursing assistants come in all shapes and sizes. We are both male and female. Our Physical appearances are different...
