Problem 1)

A skeptical paranormal researcher claims that the proportion of Americans that have seen a UFO is less than 1 in every one thousand. State the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis for a test of significance.

Problem 2)

At one school, the average amount of time that tenth-graders spend watching television each week is 18.4 hours. The principal introduces a campaign to encourage the students to watch less television. One year later, the principal wants to perform a hypothesis test to determine whether the average amount of time spent watching television per week has decreased. Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses for the study described.

Problem 3)

A two-tailed test is conducted at the 5% significance level. What is the P-value required to reject the null hypothesis?

Problem 4)

A two-tailed test is conducted at the 5% significance level. What is the right tail percentile required to reject the null hypothesis?

Problem 5)

Steven collected data from 20 college students on their emotional responses to classical music. Students listened to two 30-second segments from “The Collection from the Best of Classical Music.” After listening to a segment, the students rated it on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 indicating that it “made them very sad” to 10 indicating that it “made them very happy.” Steve computes the total scores from each student and created a variable called “hapsad.” Steve then conducts a one-sample t-test on the data, knowing that there is an established mean for the publication of others that have taken this test of 6. The following is the scores:

...The first thing that most new users shifting from Windows find confusing is navigating the Linux file system. The Linux file system functions differently than the Windows file system. I will compare and contrast the differences of both and takes you through the layout input/output systems of both. In Linux, there is only a single hierarchal directory structure. Everything begins from the root directory which is represented by the symbol /, which then expands into sub-directories. Windows includes various partitions and then directories under those partitions; Linux places all the partitions underneath the root directory by mounting them in specific directories. In contrast, Windows uses the letter C as its root directory. In Windows, various partitions are detected during the boot process and are assigned a drive letter. Under Linux, the system must mount partitions and devices during the boot process; otherwise it will be unaware of its existence. This might not seem very convenient to provide access to your partitions or devices, but it offers greater flexibility. This is known as the unified file system in Linux which offers several advantages over the Windows file system. For example, let's examine the /usr directory. This directory resides off the root directory and contains most of the system executables. With the Linux file system, you can choose to mount it off another partition or even off another machine over a network connection. The underlying system......

...Global Product Quality and Corporate Social Responsibility Perceptions: A Cross-National Study of Halo Effects Thomas J. Madden, Martin S. Roth, and William R. Dillon ABSTRACT Attribute ratings often contain a holistic or global impression of the brand, commonly referred to as “halo.” A halo response can occur when perceptions of a brand’s performance on an attribute are influenced by performance percep- tions on another attribute or by a global impression of the brand. Using cross-national survey data from consumers in Argentina, China, Spain, and the United States, the authors examine the extent to which a halo response introduces bias to product quality and corporate social responsibility perceptions of competing brands. The findings show that halo is more pervasive for product quality than for corporate social responsibility associations, varies across brands and markets, and is strongly related to brand recommendations. Examining cross-national brand performance and halo perceptions can help international marketing managers understand key perceptual similarities and differences between and across markets, which can inform strategic considerations such as whether to pursue global, panregional, or national branding, positioning, and advertising strategies. Keywords: constrained components analysis, associative network models, automatic activation theory, branding and brand management, marketing standardization/adaptation, corporate social responsibility The......

A Malicious Program That Secretly Integrates Itself Into Program or Data Files.

...Summary A malicious program that secretly integrates itself into program or data files. It spreads by integrating itself into more files each time the host program is run. Disinfection & Removal Automatic Disinfection Allow F-Secure Anti-Virus to disinfect the relevant files. For more general information on disinfection, please see Removal Instructions. Technical Details The CIH virus was first located in Taiwan in early June 1998. After that, it has been confirmed to be in the wild worldwide. It has been among the ten most common viruses for several months. CIH has been spreading very quickly as it has been distributed through pirated software. History It seems that at least four underground pirate software groups got infected with the CIH virus during summer 1998. They inadvertently spread the virus globally in new pirated softwares they released through their own channels. These releases include some new games which will spread world-wide very quickly. There's also a persistent rumor about a 'PWA-cracked copy' of Windows 98 which would be infected by the CIH virus but F-Secure has been unable to confirm this. Later on, CIH was distributed by accident from several commercial sources, such as: • Origin Systems website where a download related to the popular Wing Commander game was infected • At least three European PC gaming magazines shipped magazines where the cover CD-ROM was infected - one of them even included a note inside advising users to disinfect......

The Phase 1 portion of this document will be demonstrating the implementation of Stacks and Queues. Phase 2 Hash tables can be viewed as an array of lists and are used to speed up a search for data by creating a situation that does not require the search to start at the beginning and go through every item. The identifying value is the key and the associated record is the data, thus a hash table is a collection of (key, value) pairs. Phase 3 In order to efficiently use a database, the data must be stored in some sort of order. There are a number of different sorting algorithms; a programmer would choose which one to use depending on the......

Is this a population or a sample; explain your answer. The randomly selected group of 500 patients with high cholesterol is a population. 67% of that population has heart disease. It is considered a population because it is the entire group of patients that in which we are interested, and desire to draw a conclusion on heart health. The blood sample drawn to determine high cholesterol might be a sample under this study. b) An investigation of 150 randomly selected local restaurants concluded that 42% of local restaurants have serious health code violations. Is this a population or a sample; explain your answer. This is also a population. A population is an entire collection of people, animal, plants, or things from which we want to draw a conclusion. In this case, the things (restaurants) are the population which is being studied for health code violations. Scores on inspections, and other gathered data, may be considered a sample based on the tests. 2) Determine whether the given value is a statistic or a parameter. a) A researcher determines that 42.7% of all downtown office buildings have ventilation problems. Analyzing and Interpreting Data: Bims Week 5

...Analyzing and Interpreting Data: BIMS Week 5 QNT/351 November 1, 2015 Analyzing and Interpreting Data: BIMS Week 5 In the aforementioned survey that Ballard Integrated Managed Services created and conducted it was found to have lacked important material making the survey not as accommodating as it could have been. Ballard Integrated Managed Services had asked that recommendations be made about needed information on the survey that will help in the research of the increase of employee turnover. The previous survey covered elements of the proper training, ethics, and demographics but it likes a few more elements. First the survey was given to active employees and not to employees that were leaving the job. Another element of information that needs to be included is safety, such as do the employees feel like the work environment is safe. One more area that may be helpful information is to give the employee the opportunity to make a comment in a section set for additional comments that the survey may not include. For Ballard Integrated Managed Services to conduct a complete survey it is important the survey includes the information needed to acquire the results needed to help resolve the issues. When looking at the results from the exit interview, it is easy to see that the survey gave BIMS a better idea of why the member of the company was leaving, and not how the employee was feeling about his or her job. The questions were re-worded so not to be leading or easily......
