A Science Investigatory Project

ABSTRACT
Title: CALAMANSI (CITROFURTUNELLA MICROCARPA) ONION (ALLIUM CEPA) CHILI (CAPSICUM FRETESCENS LINN) SUBSTITUTE AS COCKROACH KILLER

This research was conducted to the feasibility of the Calamansi (Citrofortunella Microcarpa),Onion (Allium Cepa),Chili(Capsicum Fretescens Linn) of cockroach killer. There were only two trial done in the study to ensure the reliability of the results. It was conducted at Fabros’ residence. The experiment has 2 treatment. The 1st treatment shows the result when cockroaches were treated with the extract of Calamansi, Onion, and Chili with the given length of time. The 2nd treatment shows the result when cockroaches were treated with the commercial insecticide with the given length of time.
Therefore the researchers accepts the hypothesis that Calamansi (Citrofortunella Microcarpa),Onion (Allium Cepa),Chili(Capsicum Fretescens Linn) are cockroach killer

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Cockroaches belong to the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Anthropoda, Class Insecta and Order Blattaria. Cockroaches are one of the numerous species on the world. Some species are beneficial to the environment as important recyclers of decaying organic material. Cockroaches are attached to warm, moist environment. The pest cockroaches can be carries of various diseases because they are commonly found near waste deposits or in other places, where food is present. They prefer food sources such as starches, sweet, grease and meat products, but other items may include cheese, beer, leather, glue, hair, starch in book bindings and flake of dried skin or decaying organic matter (plant or animal).
They spend daylight hours in dark, secluded sites under refrigerators,…...

At this point, the ground beef patties used for hamburgers and the ground beef patties used to chili split off and become separately identifiable. 2. Hamburgers account for 55% of Wendy’s total sale, while chili only composes for 5%. Therefore, chili is a by-product of hamburger. The meat that goes into making chili is a by-product of hamburgers. The over-cooked meat is used as input in the process of making chili instead of being thrown away. It enables Wendy to avoid incurring extra costs. 3. Option 1: The cost of chili does not vary with the seasons. During the month of October through March, 60% of annual chili sale occurred. It happened approximately 10% of the time; it became necessary to cook meat specifically for use in making chili. However, the price of ground beef does not change. Even though the total cost of making chili increases, the unit cost remains unchanged. There is no need to increase the price as well. Option 2: : The cost of chili does vary with the seasons. During the month of October through March, 60% of annual chili sale occurred. It happened approximately 10% of the time; it became necessary to cook meat specifically for use in making chili, which increases the cost of making chili. The total cost of making each 8-ounce serving of chili is $1.13 when ground beef is used specifically for chili. Wendy’s should increase the price, which currently is $0.99, from......

The Cockroach

...insects. When we read the title of the poem “The cockroach” we immediately have negative opinions. However, Kevin Halligan sees through the revolt and instead, relates to the cockroach throughout the poem. Halligan crafted the poem carefully to convey a message to the readers that we never stop wanting more. He also managed to relate a nasty insect we often despise to a human being that embraces much more respect. So how he uses a cockroach to convey his message? Right at the beginning of the poem in the first sentence, Halligan quotes that the cockroach is “giant” which forces us to think why such a useless insect is said to be “giant.” This word hints to us that in this context the cockroach is more than what we’d usually imagine and the cockroach is elevated to a higher status. This idea is sustained when the cockroach is given an pronoun “he.” A cockroach is usually called an “it” whereas Halligan presents him at a higher level. The verbs “jog” and “climb” also help to mirror actions of a human fortifying that the cockroach was supposed to represent a human. At the end of the poem it is proven to us that the cockroach represents him shown by the quote “I thought I recognized myself.” This leads us to a new idea as to why Halligan uses a cockroach to characterize a human. The cockroach is liable to repetition and routine shown in the quote “circling the rusty table leg and back.” The quote signifies that the cockroach has got no intentions and is going nowhere......

Onions

...An onion is a monocot plant in the Phylum Angiospermophyta. Its leaves have long reticulate veins running from the petiole to the apex. Onions are plants used by people for cooking purposes. An onion has two structures. Root system Shoot system Onions have an adventitious root system. The purpose of the roots is to provide firm anchorage of the plant and absorption of water and mineral salts from the soil. The shoot system comprises of the leaves that perform a photosynthetic function. They have numerous chloroplasts. They contain chlorophyll that trap light energy from the sun. Flowers provide reproduction sites. This is where pollen grains are produced by the anthers and ovules by the ovary. Onions develop specialized underground stem to create bulbs. This is a modification of the standard stem that is set to provide support to the plant. The bulbs are usually swollen fleshy leaves found on the underground. This differs from the standard plant structure where the stem is found above the ground. Animals are important in a given ecosystem. The behavior of different animals ensure ecological balance. A vulture is a scavenger that benefits humans in various ways. They feed on decaying carcasses. When animals die, either naturally or through illness, Vultures feed on the remains and clean the environment. This is imperative to control the spread of diseases that might destroy the human population. Animals perform certain functions that plants do not. This reason for......

Chili Pepper and Eucalyptusoil as a Cockroach Killer

...DISPLAY BOARD ABSTRACT Cockroaches are a constant threat to humans; they spread diseases and are unsanitary. This cockroach problem is commonly addressed through the use of toxic pesticides, but the unfortunate truth is that these pesticides can also be harmful to humans and the environment. The researchers conducted a study to create a toxic-free cockroach killer using Eucalyptus Oil and Chili Peppers as ingredients. The researchers determined the most effective concentration of ingredients by performing a Preliminary Test. From the test they discovered that the concentration with the higher amount of Eucalyptus oil is most effective in killing cockroaches. They proceeded to conduct further experiments to compare the Formulated Cockroach Killer from a known Commercial Pesticide. 5 trials were performed, 10 cockroaches were tested with the Commercial Pesticide and another 10 for the Formulated Cockroach Killer. The Commercial Pesticide killed a higher quantity of cockroaches than the Formulated one. Data were collected and a T-test was performed. The T-test proved that the difference is statistically significant. Although the Commercial Pesticide was more effective, the Formulated Cockroach Killer was still able to kill cockroaches without the use of Toxic ingredients. Background Of The Study Cockroaches have adapted to survive in many environments. Once cockroaches invade your home, they can expose you to several kinds of diseases. The use of toxic pesticides to manage......

Btk Killer

...Helena Eliasson LIBRARTS SOC220 Prof. Edith Linn 7 March 2009 The BTK Killer – Dennis Rader Brief Biography Dennis Rader, who was William and Dorothea Rader’s firstborn son, came into this world on March 9, 1945. After his birth in Pittsburg, Kansas, the family moved shortly thereafter to Wichita, Kansas. As a child, Dennis seemed to be a normal kid with no special interests that could be perceived, by his surrounding society and family, as abnormal or perverted. Little they all knew about what was going on in his fantasies and in his privacy. The young boy Rader was an average student at his elementary school and through his school years he stayed mediocre with weak grades. Dennis has been described by people who knew him back then, as a well-mannered lone wolf who wasn’t really interested in staying socially active. In 1966, Dennis joined the U.S air force and served them for four years. He married Paula Dietz in 1971, shortly after his homecoming, and the two of them eventually had two children, Brian and Kerri. Rader earned an associates degree in electronics in 1973 and started his studies at Wichita State University the same year. It was about to take him an additional six years to earn a degree at the university, and all he had to show for it was C minus or D level grades. Dennis Rader lived a pretty normal life, seen from the perspective of an outsider, and after being let go by the air craft manufacturing company he worked for, in 1973, he got a job......
