...present in this sector. The major players in the market include Parle Bisleri, Kinley, Aquafina, Oxyrich and Bailley. There is an increasing competition in this sector to which these companies are trying to keep up with. BISLERI: It’s all history Bisleri was basically an Italian company which derived its name from its founder Dr. Felice Bisleri. In 1967, it had set up a plant in Mumbai with a view to market bottled water in India. However it was unsuccessful and wanted an exit from the market. In 1969, parle bought Bisleri but did not see potential in the product. As a soft drinks company, they had Thumbs up, Gold spot and Limca. Hence they devised on a strategy to promote bisleri as ‘Bisleri soda’ in two variants namely, carbonated and non-carbonated mineral water. Who knew then that it would be the household name and will leave a mark on the international market as well? Bisleri was available in Glass bottles in 1969. Target market was unknown, which made it difficult as to whom to target. Also since bottled water is colorless, tasteless and odorless, it was not an easy product to advertise. Thus, the earlier brand building efforts focused on Bisleri being healthy with adequate minerals. The Italian name added a dash of class to it. The first print ad campaign captured the international essence and showed a butler with a bow tie, holding two bottles of Bisleri. The punch line was, "Bisleri is veri veri extraordinari" (the spelling of the punch line was......

...two litres, one litre and 500 ml. In addition to the bottles, Kinley drinking water in bulk packs of 25 litre jars will also be packed in the new plant at the rate of 2,000 jars per day with provision to double the capacity to 4,000 jars a day. Currently, Kinley drinking water is being contract-packed by Kothari Beverages' unit in Hyderabad, and Sarvaraya Sugars, a franchise of Coca-Cola in Sattupalli of Khammam district. A Coca-Cola source said here today that once the Himjal plant goes on stream, Kinley will have a dominant role in the drinking water segment in Andhra Pradesh. When Coca-Cola entered the pure water segment in Andhra Pradesh a year-and-half ago, 80 per cent of the then mineral water segment was in the hands of rival Bisleri of Ramesh Chauhan. The source claimed that in the past 18 months, Kinley has been able to capture 40.8 per cent of the pure drinking water segment in Andhra Pradesh, reducing Bisleri's market share to just 38 per cent. According to the source, Andhra Pradesh is "a very important market" for Coca-Cola India as the company's largest chunk of investment -- 20 per cent of its total Rs 3,600 crore investment in the country-- is in the state. Coca-Cola has four large state-of-the-art bottling plants for its soft drinks here and an equal number of major franchisees. PepsiCo India Brand History Aquafina was first launched in the US in 1994.
