Portfolio Assignment #2- Generosity
One person who has been very generous towards me is Mr. Harty, my old algebra teacher. When I was a sophomore, I had switched schools in the middle of the year from a very small private school to a large public high school. I began the semester in Honors Algebra II, but the course was much more difficult than it had been at my old school and I struggled to catch up to where the rest of the class was at learning. After failing nearly every assignment and test, I found myself failing a class for the first time in my life. Luckily, the school allowed me to switch into regular Algebra II, but I had to keep my failing grade as I transitioned. Mr. Harty was my new teacher and offered to tutor me in order to get my grade up. He was very encouraging and patient with me as I struggled to grasp the concept of the new style of math I was being taught. It felt great knowing that he truly wanted me to succeed despite past setbacks and was willing to give his time to help me pass the class. With Mr. Harty’s help, I was able to get my grade up to a C+ by the end of the semester. Mr. Harty’s generosity really helped me adjust to my new school’s learning style and showed how much the staff truly cares about their students. Another situation where someone has showed me generosity was when my mom was rushed to the hospital due to having a seizure for the first time in her life. I was very scared for my mom and confused as to why this was happening. However, the hospital staff made me feel much better by explaining what was going on and what they were going to do to make my mom better. The nurses and doctors were generous towards my family and I in the sense that they kept us informed and stayed calm throughout the situation.
