Short Answer Questions

...Beau Smith, Zach Chrzan, Robbie Wacker, Terence Heiser 9/16/12 Business Comm. Short Answer Questions 45. An accounting career would be an interesting career to pursue. Listening can be a vital part of the job. One example would be having a more people oriented style of listening and being able to understand what they say more effectively to be able to help them with their problem. Along with being people oriented, being versatile in our listening style can make us better accountants. An action oriented style can help us accomplish that. Asking questions as an accountant is important. By asking questions we can obtain more information to help accomplish a goal for customers. When being people-oriented, the best way to improve your communication is to not worry so much about the factual information at that point. There will be time to make up all of the information that may be lost at another time. When asking questions, don’t just ask questions to make the person feel involved, rather really listen to the content of what they are saying. Really listen to the answer which they give, and take it for what it is worth. When being task-oriented, the best way to improve listening skills in this area is to remove the emotion from the situation, and focus solely on the information at hand. 46. The three barriers which affect our listening the most are preoccupation, fear of appearing ignorant and physical distractions. A lot of times in our busy lives, we can......

Training Is the Answer...but What Is the Question

...Article Critique Training is the Answer…But What Was the Question The author’s main objective of this article is to ask the question of whether training really works or not. Mr. Rosner looks at how managers were being trained in order to develop the employees that they managed. This article also speaks about the mindset of personnel that attend training. Rosner states, in the words of Bob Pike, president of Minneapolis-based Creative Training Techniques, “Most people come to training with one of four mindsets: as a learner, a networker, a vacationer or a prisoner” (Rosner, 2009). These mindsets that people possess can make the training better or worse for the people attending it. If they come in with a learning mindset then they tend to more focused on what they are about to learn. They are more involved in the training and understand what they are there for. The networker mindset person is there for learning but they want to network with other people within the class. They are looking to make connections in order to have more connections for a later date, maybe for a better job or for something they may need in their current company. The vacationer mindset person is there to get away from everything not to learn. They want to get away from the office and enjoy their time away. The prisoner feels as if they were forced to be there and they come in mostly with a closed mind about the training they are attending. Rosner also speaks about some problems that people have......

Interview Questions and Answers

...TEN TOUGH INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND TEN SMART ANSWERS If only interviewees could have the slightest idea of the kind of questions interviewers will ask them, a lot more people would be able to overcome mental fear of the unknown which often produces the physical symptoms of nervousness. The best way to prepare mentally is to know what may be coming. Fear of the unknown can only exist when there is an unknown. Take the time to understand some of the standards when it comes to interviewing questions. The following are some of the most difficult questions you will face in the course of your job interviews. Some questions may seem rather simple on the surface such as ‘tell me about yourself’ but these questions can have a variety of answers. The more open ended the question, the wider the variation in the answers. Once you have become practiced in your interviewing skills, you will find that you can use almost any question as a launching pad for a particular topic or compelling story. Others are classic interview questions, such as “what is your greatest weakness”? Questions most people answer improperly. In this case, the standard textbook answer for the greatest weakness question is to provide a veiled positive such as: I work too much. I just work and work and work. Wrong. Either you are lying or, worse yet, you are telling the truth, in which case you define working too much as a weakness and really do not want to work much at all. The following answers are provided to......

Killer Angel

...The Killer Angels Michael Shaara “The Killer Angels”, by Michael Shaara, was a novel about the military strategies and actions taken during the Civil War. The novel was written from several different military viewpoints. Shaara wrote this novel through the eyes of Joshua Chamberlain, John Buford for the Union and Robert E. Lee and his right hand man James Longstreet for the Confederate and other important military figures. The Civil War spanned over many years, however Shaara chose to focus on The Battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought from July 1st to July 3rd. The battle was the turning point of the Civil War. There were many battles fought before and after Gettysburg but this battle was the one that confirmed the Confederate would be defeated and fail to win their independence. Michael Shaara did an excellent job in helping the reader understand what went on it The Battle of Gettysburg. He allowed the reader to see things from both sides of the war. He never let on which side of the war he agreed with. Shaara wrote this novel in a way that each side was given equal time, even if he had conflicts with the viewpoints of the individuals in the war. On one day the Union would look powerful and the next it would be the Confederate. He wanted readers to see what the Union and the Confederate had endured based on the information from the soldiers themselves. When I read the book I felt compassion for the Union and Confederate armies. It was very......
