All Good Music Resembles Something All Good Music Resembles Something Terrance Edwards ENGL_11113F Instructor Rachel Ramer April 21, 2009 “All good music resembles something. Good music stirs by its mysterious resemblance to the objects and feelings which motivated it.” This was stated by Jean Cocteau, a French author and filmmaker from the 1940’s, who said this about music and it is something that to this day that still resonates in every song that is put out and marketed for us to listen to. I can say that I write songs be it they are rap songs, love songs, me songs, us songs, songs about God, songs about the Devil. Well songs about being devilish in what I am doing. They can be good, they can be bad, they can end up in the trash yet they still are my songs until they are proven otherwise then my lawyer will give you a call. Without a doubt, they can be songs about an unrequited love. They can be songs about how my pants are hanging and why they are that hung that low. They can just be anything as long as I know what I am writing about. I can write songs in fifteen minutes, a half hour, or a full day. I might just need a bit more time to add just the right word to a phrase to make a song work. For instance, to start a song, at least the way I do it, is to have a structured beat and rhythm. From there I will listen to it for a while. Is it a dance beat? Is it a chill beat? Will it make me turn off the lights and find myself crying, laughing or just staring into space? This helps you in getting the song straight so you can start playing with the words and making your chorus, then the verses. And you do this until it all sounds right. I usually just need to get it out my head. Then I start all over again. It will be the same song or something all together different but it will make to the done pile. In fact, Virginia Woolf once said, “My own brain is to me…...

Is Music a Good Tool

...According to Elizabeth Scott’s “Is Music a Good Tool For Health?,” music affects the body and mind and is a helpful tool for us to improve our health. Furthermore, music therapy is a growing field of health care using music as a therapeutic tool. Many hospitals take on music therapists in order to help with mental and physical illness. The author concludes music is a good tool for health, and I strongly agree with the author when she claims that music influences the body and mind in many ways. Most importantly, I believe that music is a good tool to help the body in staying healthy. The author stated in her article that “Breathing and heart rate may be affected by the changes music can bring.” That is to say, if we listen to the slow rhythm of music, our breathing and heart rate will slow down. This can mean both breathing and heart rate can be adjusted by the alterations of music. For example, we can find that music is used to control breathing and heart rate in order to stay calm like a meditation. Breathing is an important factor for people who practice meditation and meditation music is performed to help them. According to the article, music helps with pain management and eases muscle tension. I have experienced the moment of relaxation response when I went to the dental office. While lying on the examination table, I was very nervous. But I released my nervous tension soon because there was a slow jazz groove. Relaxing the muscles or parts of......

Music..

...Music…. Life Within “Music is life”, what does the quoted line state? You may have heard this phrase from mostly many of the youth in your society especially now that the rate of change and ‘rebelliousness’ is exceeding so prominently. But, just because they say this, does it really mean that music really means the life to them? Do they really understand what the idea behind this phrase is? As Jason M. Kemper says, ‘music is a reflection of the deepest emotions of its composers.’ Therefore, in order to understand any type of music it is essential not only to examine its musical content but also its historical context. Where does ‘music’ fit in a society? And, how the society treats music and everything connected to it? A question to be asked don’t you think, but then again does it have a definite answer? One may argue that this article has so many questions well isn’t life, or the place of music in a society a question itself? As we know, music is generally accepted in all the societies, not exactly. Music has countless genres out of which only a few are accepted by our society. The media says that rap should be blamed for the gang violence, drugs, devaluing women and male control; rock and metal is blamed for satanic rituals, suicides as an “alternative” or “solution,” sadism, and masochism. Do you think this is true? I believe not.  You see, music can become a culture and a culture that has, is and will only develop or rather change but never end. Gustave E. Von......

...person life. Most teenagers depend on their parents which give them no responsibilities and give them all the time to have fun They also don’t have any extra stress from the work place because they don’t have a job or a boss to deal with, they also don’t have to pay any bills, All they have to do is to go to school and that is only in the morning so they have the rest of the day for themselves to hang out with friends, play games or do their hobbies in other words they can do whatever they want and that make them happy. Teenagers who don’t have responsibilities have time to be alone and ponder about their future and dream about how they want their life be and all the opportunities they have ahead of them. That makes a person happy. Teenagers are also tolerated by adults they allow them make mistakes because they think their mind are not mature enough to think about the consequences of all the wrong things that they do. That remind me of myself as an teenager I used to do a lot of things without thinking about the consequences like sneaking out at night with a person that I barely even know, But my parents used to talk to me about how dangerous it is to do things like that and then forgive me without granting me. All These things give teenagers a peace of mind and make them happy. Clearly, having fewer responsibilities gives teenagers time to enjoy themselves and do all kind of things they want to do and think about their future, I believe that the teenage years are......

Music

...Music ever since the first note was played has always been beloved in some way by mankind; though different tastes come into play music still has that power that allows any individual to just get away from the stresses of the world. Music allows you to express yourself when you hide the rest of who you are to try to fit in or impress society. But most importantly music can help with certain types of depression because of how it affects each individual. Music helps with our society bond which in my opinion is one of the only few things I see our society bond on. Ever since I was a kid I always loved music or playing it, it was weird, I was able to pickup basically any instrument and play it like a natural, but that’s not why I kept playing music, I did it for the feeling of release it gave me. The release of stress from school, chores, homework, whatever stressed me out I put into my music and I started getting really good at playing music. See it’s not so much playing the music or listening to it which relieves the stress, it’s actually letting yourself hear the emotion in the song or the notes you play and allow yourself to just let go and allow that euphoria to take over to where it’s just you listening or playing and no one else in this world can interrupt you. Express yourself, a small quote I guess you could say everyone is afraid to do. Yet those who do are frowned upon in today’s society; everyone is afraid to show their true colors because they’re afraid of how......

...Course: Tutor: Date: Music of Tin Pan Alley Popularity of Tin Pan Alley music The popularity of the music of these artists (Tin Pan Alley) can be said to have maintained popularity for such a long time due to its structure building, the laying of lyrics is awesome and the form makes the music flow well. The performance is totally in its own compared to the latest versions of music. There is creative which follows along and make it enjoyable. The dance rhythm of the music “kills” other versions since the natural balance of the accents remains to be superior all over. These writers began from amateur stage and their writing was perfect, coon songs which were rough and risqué made the unusual popularity to the music. Performances of Tin Pan Alley music I do like the way in which the performance was done by the Tin Pan Alley artists. This is because of their assimilation of the rhythm which remained to be ragtime. Once listening to the flow of the music, you will notice repeat choruses which maintain the theme in the song. You will find happiness once listening and watching the performance and you cannot avoid having different mood on the music. Even the latest version of the music is very cool. Response According to the discussion which was held on Friday January 24th 2014 at 5:43 pm, the students were seen to have made a very good approach in analyzing the music of Tin Pan Alley. This is because it’s evident that they really know the music genre and might have......

...MUSIC IN THE BEGINNING WHICH MUSIC IS OF GOD? Intro: We were created for praise and worship. The greatest desire of our life should be to praise and worship God. The reason we live is to worship Him. Worship is our first responsibility to God. God did not need to create you, but He chose to create you for His enjoyment. You exist for His benefit, His glory, His purpose and His delight. “Because of His love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ He would make us His children-this was His pleasure and purpose.” (Ephesians 1:5) When we worship, our goal is to bring pleasure to God, not ourselves. Worship is not a part of your life; it is your life. Worship not just for church services. We are told to “worship Him continually” and to “praise Him from sunrise to sunset.” Praise should be the first activity when you open your eyes in the morning and the last activity when you close them at night. David said, “I will thank the Lord at all times. My mouth will always praise Him.” God is seeking for worshippers: John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. * The spirit part of an unsaved man is dead. * However, the spirit part of those who have received Jesus in their lives is alive. * There can be no true worship unless our spirit is alive. This happens when we receive Jesus as our personal Savior. I. Music in......

All Good Things Must Come to an End: a Course Review

...LITR221 January 26, 2014 All Good Things Must Come to an End A Course Review of 2013-2014 Winter Semester of LITR 221 The amazing thing about literature is that it can be interrupted differently by each person who reads it. Which means that while one piece of writing is amazing, creative, and witty to one person to another person it could be the most boring, uninteresting, and redundant piece of literature they have ever read. In this semester of Literature 221, I was given the opportunity to read works from many different genres, time periods, and styles of writing. Some of which, like Emily Dickinson’s Life I and Life XLIII, Joyce Carol Oates’ Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?, and Sherman Alexie’s What You Pawn I Will Redeem I thoroughly enjoyed and learned from. While others such as Ernest Hemingway’s Big Two-Hearted River, Mark Twain’s excerpt When The Buffalo Climbed a Tree from Roughing It, and the excerpt from Sula by Toni Morrison weren’t exactly my cup of tea. Emily Dickinson is a remarkable poet who often writes from a very emotional and self-examining perspective. This is why I really enjoyed the two selections of her work we had to read this semester. In her first poem Life I, the very first two lines make you stop and think, “I’M nobody! Who are you? Are you nobody, too?” (Dickinson 2) Bam! I was hit in the face with self-reflection. Am I somebody? Or am I a nobody? Emily Dickinson continues by saying “how dreary to be somebody!”......

Fundamentals of All Good Writing

...Fundamentals of all good writing Name Tutor Course College Date Part one: pleasant/unpleasant description of the place From a distance, one can see the silence and calmness of my compound. It looks humble and it is evident that anyone would want to walk around it to enjoy its wonderful nature. It extends approximately two meters away from the walls of the house and surrounds the house. It has a short well cut spreading grass that makes it look more attractive. A line of beautiful reddish in color flowers are planted equidistant from the walls of the house and the fencing of the compound. It runs around the compound in a circular shape. It is wonderful. The spreading short grass and the surrounding of the flowers makes the compound look like a football playing ground from a distance. Alongside the fencing of the compound, there are trees planted and well shaped to depict the shape of an umbrella. The trees provide shade during sunny days and hence this makes the compound highly cozy for anyone who would want to use the leisure relaxing within the compound. However, the trees planted to provide shade shed their leaves during dry spells to conserve water. Water running through the compound makes them rot making the compound become stinky. At times if the compound is not cleaned regularly during dry spells, it looks filthy due to the numerous leaves that are shed by the trees and spread over the compound by the running wind that usually characterize dry seasons. This......

...he believed that his servant would be healed. Jesus was marveled at his centurion faith. Jesus ministry also consisted of baptizing people as John did but with the Holy Spirit where as John Baptist unto repentance (from sin) (Kistemaker, 1982). In the book of Luke 3:23 he stated the ministry of Jesus began when He was thirty years of age and lasted until he was thirty-three years old. In this short period of time He accomplish a lot, he taught about God being love and man having love for one another this message should of outweighed the miracles and healings. Jesus continue to speak of the scripture being fulfilled in their presence, referring to himself as the fulfillment. This help to establish his ministry along with teaching the “Good News and setting the captives free from their bondage. In the New Testament Paul picked it up by stating “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love” 1 Cor 13:13....

...Analyzing Westlife Music Group Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Westlife General Information Westlife is composed of group of five men all coming from Ireland. They are Nicky Bryne, Bryan McFadden, Shane Filan, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily (“Westlife”,2015). Out of the five members of Westlife, Shane was the first one to engage in music. He began his singing career at the age of 12 after performing at the Hawkswell Theatre in Sligo, Ireland. Coincidentally, Shane, Mark and Kian are all from Sligo and they became friends through acting while they were students at the Summerhill College (“Westlife’s History”, 2015). While still in college, Shane was strongly motivated by the success of Boyzone which made him have a strong desire to start doing pop music (“Westlife’s History”, 2015). Shane first thought of starting a four member singing group called SC4 but then went ahead and joined a group called IOU which comprised of Derek Lacey, Graham Keighron, Mark and Michael Garrett (“Westlife”,2015). The group released their first single called “Together Girl Forever”. However, this was the only song that was done by the group. The determination to music prompted Shane’s mother to intervene and ask Louis Walsh, the manager of Boyzones if he could sign Shane (“Westlife”,2015). It is Loius who first signed Shane, Mark and Kian into the first group. Bryan and Nicky later joined their group hence forming Westside band. The group was co-managed by Ronan Keating......

It Is Just About Me, Not Really Good at All

..._____________________________________________________________ WRITING ASSIGNMENT Version 01 Task: To what extend do you agree with the statement: “School is bad for students?” Support your claims with appropriate grounds and warrants. People may think that children must go to school; thus, almost children go to school every day (this sentence has a problem in how you express the idea) However, arguments have persisted as to whether school is good (can be replaced by 'beneficial') for children or not. Although there are convincing argument on both sides, I strongly believe that it is bad for children because school not only prevents children’s creativeness, but also has negative impacts on children’s (their) health. Most of (omit) educators claim that school is encouraging children to be individual and different (how does school encourage children to be individual and different? I think you should clarify this a little bit); nevertheless, it is a fact that school is crushing (stifle/ inhibit) kids’ creativeness ( can replaced by 'creativity' to avoid repetition) by asking almost (virtually) all of them to do the same things and not accepting creative children’s characteristics. The majority of students are cast in the same mould made by educators, thinking that model is standard for people who children will be. (express in a clearer way). These acts (not suitable) are the root of being not interested in exploring new ideas or enlarging knowledge since children......

A Good Orientation Is Essential for All New Employees

...TITLE : A GOOD ORIENTATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR ALL NEW EMPLOYEES, WHETHER THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE OR NOT. 1. INTRODUCTION “A good orientation is essential for all new employees, whether they have experience or not”. I would say that I strongly agree with the statement above because the orientation for new employees is an issue that has be faced by every organization. Orientation training and the socialization of the new employees is an important concept for any organization to follow after an employee is hired. Although other terms, such as induction and indoctrination are also used, orientation is most accurately reflective of the real meaning and process. Orientation is basically training and learning. It is the process of familiarizing new employees with the organization, their job and their work unit. Orientation procedures vary widely from organization to organization. Generally, their purpose is to enable new employees to fit in so that they become productive members of the organization. A newcomer may need several hours, several weeks or several months of work with other employees to become completely familiar with the organization. In recent years, many organizations have realized that the socialization process begin in orientation and can make significant difference to new employees. “Our workforce is easily trainable” , said Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, Minister of Human Resources Malaysia, on the efforts taken by government and private sector in producing......
